I am potty training my 3rd child. He is 3 1/2. It took forever to get him out of diapers and to put on new underwear. We were so proud he made that step. I was able to get him to sit on the toilet, both big and little for a day. He did not go at all in the toilet. He rather go in his pants. Now I cannot even get him to sit on a toilet. He says it will take forever. I keep asking him every 20 minutes if he has to go and he says no, still going in his pants. I do not believe in rushing my kids when it comes to potty time, but 3 1/2 is getting way too old in my opinion. I did not have this struggle with my first two, and I feel like I am going to lose it. How to you potty train a strong willed child?

Sorry i am not going to hold down my son on the toilet. Maybe you have never done this, but we as parents are supposed to remain in control. I would literally have to hold him kicking and screaming. I want to make it as positive as I can.

I know what you are going through...I am just about to go postal with this potty training thing too....my son is 3 and will be 3-1/2 in Sept!

A suggestion I am going to try is to let him run around a naked and if he goes pee on the floor tell him that is a no no...and he has to go in the potty. I hope it works...because I am just about to lose it!

Strong will kids aren't easy...Good Luck to you...I am going to star your question...see if I can get any ideas from your question.

Don't forget for future reference hon ... Youngsters do what works lol. It can be extra comfy for her to poop in her diaper and have mommy easy it up, at the same time at grandma's it was once uncomfortable to have grandma do the wiping so she'd go in the bathroom. That or perhaps she used to be delighted by means of the praise that grandma heaped on her. Do not put her in diapers, put her within the massive woman panties and do not return!!! Once you are making the resolution to potty instruct, diapers are out of the question eternally! Let her have an accident or two and when she does tell her "oh honey, i'm SO SO sorry you had an accident. You were doing so health a large woman too" She'll get the drift :)

Well, i just went throught this with my 3 year old daughter/stepdaughter, and finally i just told her, sorrie lexie we only have two diapers/pullups left, and if you use them up then we have nothing for accidents at bed time, She hasnt been interested in the potty much at all or any thing, and we let her go with what ever adults, and people we felt safe, grandma and nana and what not, well she didnt want to and then she went to grannys house with the other kids and bam, she just went to the potty, this is about four days now, i just havent seen her go poo yet?? but try that, and maybe try having him shoot for the cheerios, or what not, diffrent colored water may help, also tell him what a big man he is growing into, you could aslo try a chart. you can google them free printable, or online potty charts, and they get a sticker or what not for each day that they do good on the potty, one accident all day is better than a a day of diapers. This works wonders, really, the behaviour charts for older kids do a good job to....and when he goes potty offer him a treat, and praise him like none other, lol act liek he just won the lottery......

Put his pot in front of the television during his favorite show and make him sit on it. Also, observe him and try to gauge how long from the time he eats or drinks that elimination follows and put him on a schedule according to that. If within 1 hour of eating he needs to do # 2, than sit him on the pot about 45-55 min after he has eaten. Remember, you are the grown up and it will not hurt him to sit on the pot until he uses it.

stop asking him and just take him and put him on the toilet and make him sit there. you as his parent have to be consistent in the training take him at least once an hour every hour and make him sit there for several minutes

My son hated diapers. he was out of them real early. But we have friends who have 2 boys and the 1 that is 8 still wears a diaper to bed. They do not make a big deal out of it but I was shocked to find it in our bathroom trash and full to the max!

So, I think you should let your guy go back to diapers-maybe alternating with the pull ups. But work on him taking longer stretches with out using diapers.

Also, my son stands on the seat and squats. I think he was afraid of falling in or did once but never said anything about it but just figured if he squatted he wouldn't fall in and that lead to him taking everything off whenever he needed to take a dump.
