Is there any software which can convert speech to text?? I have come across dictaphones and transcription kits in my research on the issue. Of which i guess dictaphones are not the ones as it will just help play back the recording with some controls so that typing is made easier. But i dont want to type....imagine typing up a recording of upto 2 or 3 hours!
May be transcription kit is the answer but im not really sure. Dont wanna invest in some useless stuff.
Please help.

I personally use voice recognition software in my secretarial work. Also this resource site has a section on voice recognition that I had a look at and is good, happens to be indicating that the best software is the one that my computer dude actually recommended for me, phew.

It just doesn't work very well. You train the software for a specific user and then you have a cold or a headache and it won't work. Or, the air conditioner kicks in, it won't work. I suspect the airlines which use voice phone routing, and the military have very sophisticated hardware that puts this out of reach of the hobbyist/programmer. If you're interested, IBM had software called: "Speech To Text". Somewhere in the box of CDs I don't use very much I had a copy.

Yes,there is one from both the giants - Apple and Microsoft but unfortunately they don't seem to work quite well as for now;but Microsoft is comping up with an appropriate solution(they messed up the launch party of it;they said something else it typed something else, that was hilarious),there is one more called dragon naturally speaking software but it is junk;you can always search for it on Google or Yahoo! and download a trial version to see if you like it or not.

Look at Dragon's Naturally Speaking and similar Voice recognition software. JAWS is another I think. MS Word has I think this option but not too sure.
