I thought that you gave a letter of resignation when you leave a job right away. A two week notice is telling the job you are leaving in two weeks.

Are they the same? or different?

For instance if I got a job that wanted me to start two weeks from today, but I wanted to leave the company sooner than two weeks, which letter would I use?

How about if the job asked me to start Monday, what letter shoudl I use?

Pretty much,... except that a resignation can also imply a 'walking out the door right now' exit.

Resignation can also include that painful option the company can give when you have scr*wed up and it is that or be fired.

but two weeks notice' is pretty cut and dry. In 10 more working days you are gone.

.As far as leaving... it depends on your job and your ethics. Some jobs require a 'hand off' or the company will take a hit with the loss of your knowledge and experience.

I would go talk to your boss, find out what sort of notice they can live with... and THEN write the formal letter.

congratulations and good luck with your new job..

Resignation is saying you are leaving. 2 weeks notice is saying when you are leaving.

Type a letter of resignation and state when your last day will be.
