I know that I have to gradually ween myself off of fentanyl. I've been on it for 6 years due to fibromyalgia...currently I have no medical insurance and it cost a few hundred dollars a month for my patches...is there any other type of pain killer that is inexpensive...morphine doesn't work at all...don't even mention percocet or vicodin they do nothing...the withdraw is HORRIBLE from fentanyl..I've tried to commit suicide several times because I couldn't take the withdraw symptoms. I was hospitalized each time. I've tried to take xanax to help with the anxiety ..it didn't help at all. Please only serious answers

I have Fibromyalgia so I know what a nightmare your life is. Use Valium to help you over the worst part of the withdrawals. Valium will also help the muscle problems associated with Fibromyalgia.

Here is what I suggest to get you over the worst part of the withdrawals.

To help with the withdrawals take hot bathes with 2c. of dissolved Epsom salts and soak for 30 minutes. The skin is the biggest organ of elimination and this will help pull out the drugs. Use a loofa to clean the pores and this will help pull the drugs out even faster.

I recommend you drink purified water mixed with mineral water 50/50. This will replace the minerals that are exiting your body continuously.

I suggest that adults and children drink 40 ounces of water per 100 pounds of body weight every day and 2c. a day of fresh carrot juice, to flush the medicine out of your liver. Taking 500mg of calcium and magnesium twice a day will help you to relax.

Drink chamomile tea throughout the day and evening to help you stay relaxed.

Use a powdered fiber supplement twice daily to pull the drugs out of your intestines where they can store.

Two of the questionnaires in this forum did follow this program to withdraw from drugs and it did help. I've enclosed a link where you can read their response to this program.

The best thing to do is to talk to your doctor about weening off of the fentanyl. If I understand correctly fentanyl is the strongest prescription narcotic available and the hardest to ween off of. I personnaly had been on vicodin for 3 years due to a herniated disc in my lumbar spine and it has taken 2 months just to cut down from 4 a day to 2 a day. It is a long road when weening off of pain medication. The withdrawels can be hell. Your Doctor if they are a good one will be able to take you off of the medication and keep you comfortable at the same time. Suicide is definitly not the answer the withdrawels will eventually pass. If you are felling depressed which is a normal side effect of withdrawel. Try taking a vitamin B supplement that will help with depression naturally. The other advice I can give is to hang in there the bad feelings will pass in a week or so. Please talk to your doctor and do not try suicide again that will not solve anything. This advice is not intended to be a replacment for medical treatment. You still need to recieve medical treatment.

I have had to try to do this twice. Once I wound up in Greenleaf for 5 days, lost my job, etc.. AND got labeled an addict. My last rheumy just dismissed me from her practice and didnt even give me anything to hold me over the 30 days until I could find another dr. I think she is absolute inhumane.
My question to you is do you want to quit or are you going to do it because you feel you have to because of $$?? I have fibromyalgia too, OA, knee probs, asthma etc.. and not that old.. My PCP gave me 30 to last until I can get into a pain management and rheumy dr.. I went in MOnday and we discussed this.. NO appt yet and I am getting scared. You do build a tolerance with these meds and it is not like we go out and take them for the fun of it. I think the Medical profession has become cruel to us. So many dont even believe in the fibro. About the meds I was on a 75 mcg fent. patch and percocet up to 4 perday. I went to the ER. They gave me patches but they only lasted the 3 days. I am taking it a moment, a dayetc.. at a time,,, It is so hard.. I lay down and my legs just jump and jerkk. I am so nervous and anxious that I can understand how ppl would consider suicide. Why are some drs in some areas so D...Scared to treat their pts?? They better be glad it aint me--Everbody in pain would get their pain meds! And on a timely basis and I would listen to them.. If they screwed up.. oh well we are all human.. Chances would be given.
I dont have any patches.. I got 30 percs on Monday and it is hard! to make them last when you are used to so much more. I am so sick of it ... But cant deal with the withdrawals.. I know this is not really what you asked but I happen to being going thur this alone and wanted you to know you are NOT alone. Please email me off lide thiis for tht.. hey... cya..
