If I buy a Laptop computer for work can I right it off? Is it worth it? how much money does it get me? I am a sales rep and really would need it to be organized. Also on the same note, what about a blackberry? same questions.

You can deduct the cost of your computer or blackberry if you purchase it to use in your business.

If you use either device 100% for business, then you can "write off" the expense in one year, using Section 179.

If you do not use your device 100% for business, you cannot take advantage of Section 179. Your deduction is limited to the percentage of use, plus you must take the deduction over five years as depreciation.

You also have the option of depreciating your device over five years if you use it 100% for business, but that is not as good as using Section 179.

Yes, you can right write off your laptop purchased for work, and your blackberry, however, both purchases will be written off on form 4562, which will then need to be carried over to form 2106 - Employee Business Expenses, which will then be reported on Schedule A - Itemized Deductions under Miscellaneous Deductions, and will need to exceed 2% of your AGI for the excess to be deductible, and you'll have to itemized to get any benefit out of it at all.

If it is part of what you need to earn money in your business then it is deductible. Check into the rules for expensing (Section 179) in which you take an immediate deduction in the year of purchase for equipment needed for business rather than deducting a part each year.

First, you'll need to know how to spell! Did you mean, "write" instead of "right?" Then, claim it and depreciate it over the next several years. It IS a business expense. Get a blackberry or a laptop, not both; the laptop is a better choice with more options.

Yes, but, you would have to file the long form to get it and to benefit you it would have to be more than your standard deduction. Cell phone too.
