Thats a honest Q, but not that easy to answer.
If you're question is which hardtail you should buy, or what would be the best one, as in asking 'which is the best sports car made?' expecting Ferrari, Lamborghini or others.
There are some awesome hardtails from Titus, Jeff Jones, Seven, Moots, and othres that are made from Titanium.
If you want to buy one, then consider how much you want to spend. 1,000 to 1,500 should get you a very nice hardtail with a good fork, nice wheels. If you want the best, some of the best wheelsets are in the neighborhood of USD 1,000 or a bit more, a nice fork above 500 to 1,000, disc brakes can go for 200 each, and on and on.

It's all subjective. If you are asking me, I'm partial to Cannondale. Most of your manufacturers out there offer something appealing.
It depends on mostly on the geometry for the rider and having a cool paint job and graphics to seal the deal.
Make sure you test the bike before buying it.

As already mentioned, it is a matter of opinion. Other considerations include what is most important to you (weight, life of the material, ride characteristics and budget).
What will you be doing with the bike and what's important to you?
I don't mean to answer your question with a question but there are many things to think about.
