Jack Russell Terriers! I have two five year old females. Just last night they were running the length of a soccer field playing ball with a 12, 8 and one year old.

Depends on the activities you want to engage in.

Running buddies: Labrador, Golden, Doberman, Pitties, Rottweilers, etc.

Frisbee - any of the herding breeds especially border collies but labs are good Frisbee players too

Hunting - check out any of the sporting breeds for what you want - from water dogs to upland game...

Specialty games - dirt dog, for example - Jack Russel's are hard to beat.

So you tell me - what do you mean by active?

Could you be more specific on your question? What type of activity do you want your dog to do? For example, labs are good for running and fetching, Queensland heelers are good for herding and running, Dalmations are vocal and like to run, Pitbulls are good for playing, hanging out, and doing outrageously funny stunts, terriers are good for chewing and playing, etc. Decide what you want a dog to do and I am sure there is a breed out there than can do it within reason. Any type of lab will be very active, especially if you get a young one. I have a golden retriever and she can run and play all day without getting tired. I wish I had just an ounce of her energy!
