Jehovah's Witnesses are devout bible students. They put their priority in honoring God's name, Jehovah and following the example set by his son, Jesus Christ. We live our lives, to the best of our ability, in harmony with his teachings, even when it's unpopular.

For detailed information about our scriptural beliefs, etc., you can go to www.watchtower.org

I'd like to respond to "Serving Lord" directly:

With all due respect, you've said many inaccurate things. The most important is that Jehovah's Witnesses do not recognize Jesus as their Savior. That is a common misconception. Are you aware that our annual summer conventions around the world this year are centered on being better followers of Christ? In fact they are the "Follow the Christ" District Conventions. The fact that we do not recognize him as GOD ALMIGHTY does not minimize our love for him and our devotion as his followers. Are you also aware that JW's are the only ones, by and large, who are known world wide for following Jesus' last command to ihs disciples before ascending to heaven? Matt 28:19,20 - "Go therefore and make disciples....."

We're encouraged not to read the Bible? We are, in fact, encouraged to read it daily. There is a sign at the HQ offices that has been up for years and years. It says "Read God's Word THE BIBLE Daily" Anyone, JW or not, who has ever driven in or out of Brooklyn can tell you that is true.

O.K., more than 1 Q here...

1) We are ppl just like you and the guy that lives down the street from you
The Only Difference
is that We Live According To The Bible.
We have adjusted our lives,
our way of thinking, our standard of living,
to God's way, for His creation.
Not the other way around.
No individual is born a Witness of Jehovah.
Every single Witness makes a personal decision.
After making an honest search of God's Word,
the searcher recognizes truth,
and on this basis he dedicates himself to the true God,
whose name is Jehovah.
Whatever the cost,
Jehovah's Witnesses adhere closely to the Bible.
They have not invented a new religion.
They merely follow what is written in the Torah,
the Psalms, and the Gospel,
which is the foundation of true religion.

2) It's our living accordingly;
that sets us apart from the other religions faiths.

Some of our beliefs......

Most of the world of Christendom accepts the Trinity.
We Do Not.
Deut. 6:4 "Listen O Israel: Jehovah your God is one Jehovah";
also, 32:39: See now that I----I am he
And there are no gods together with me.............
And there is no one snatching out of my hand.
(Neither do Mormons, Unitarians & Muslims; not sure of any others, yet.)

No Immortal Soul---
God's Word says:
"The living are conscious that they will die;
but as for the dead,
they are conscious of nothing at all" Ecc. 9:5

Resurrection---
Those who have served God will be blessed for their faithfulness.
Those who have died w/out finding God will have an opportunity then.
Thus, "there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous" Acts 24:15
Only those whom God judges unworthy will not receive a resurrection.

No Hellfire--A loving god would not create a place where the dead suffer eternally. God Himself described the burning & torturing of humans as "a thing that I had not commanded and that had not come up into my heart"--Jer. 7:31

No Clergy Class---Everyone dedicated to God is equal in His eyes. True worshipers are all bro's & sis's. God did not appoint an elevated clergy class. Jesus said:"Everyone that exalts himself will be humilated, but he that humbles himself will be exalted"--Luke 18:14

No Idolatry--
"God is a spirit, and those worshiping Him must worship with spirit and truth"--John 4:24
True worshipers do not use idols.

Neutral in Politics--
Jesus said his followers would be "no part of the world"
Hence, Jehovah's Witnesses do not interfere in national or local politics. Further, they are law-abiding citizens.

There are more, these are but a few.

A Christian who witnesses to others about Jehovah God and his Son Christ Jesus, who was the greatest witness for Jehovah.
They follow the example set by Jesus and his loyal followers.
They are loyal subjects to Jehovah and to his heavenly government which will soon rule over the entire earth.
They look to that government as the only hope for mankind. They know that human ruled governments will soon be replaced by Jehovah's righteous one. (Daniel 2:44)
They believe that the Bible is inspired by God and they adhere to it's moral laws and regulations.
They are no longer affliated with "Babylon the Great" the world empire of false religion. They obeyed Jesus' command to "get out of her" ( Revelation 18:4)
LOBT and baptized in 1975.

-they believe only 144,000 people will go to heaven period.
-they believe hell is nothingness, not a burning pit of hell.
-they do not believe jesus was born on december 25th
-they dont celebrate holidays of any kind
-if someone is very bad they are "disfellowshipped" and all other witnesses other than elders cannot speak with them but are encouraged to be polite to them.
-even relatives cannot speak with disfellowshipped members.
-you can be reinstated once disfellowshipped through a study and acceptance process
-they teach kindness and being a moral good person, much like mormons i've found.
-they go around and 'spread the word of god' by knocking on doors giving out information like people in their version of the bible have done.

Could be more too i spose. that's right off the top of my head.

Jehovah's Witnesses are relatively unique among self-described Christians in that they understand the Scriptures to teach that God's Kingdom by Christ Jesus is a real government which will soon replace all earthly governments.
(Daniel 2:44) God of heaven will set up a kingdom... It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite

That Kingdom will rule over the vast majority of mankind, most of whom will have been raised from the dead after Armageddon.
(John 11:23,24) Jesus said to her: “Your brother will rise.” Martha said to him: “I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.”
(Acts 24:15) There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.

Until that resurrection, there is no suffering in "hell", or the grave. Sometime after the resurrection, death and "hell" will themselves be destroyed.
(Ecclesiastes 9:5) For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all
(Ecclesiastes 9:10) there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol ["hell"]
(Revelation 20:14) And death and Hades ["hell"] were hurled into the lake of fire

While a limitted number of humans will be resurrected to heaven to share in ruling over mankind, the vast majority (literally more than 99.9%) of Jehovah's Witnesses expect an EARTHLY hope, the same hope given to Adam and Eve.
(Genesis 1:28) God blessed them and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many and fill THE EARTH and subdue it [caps added]
(Genesis 2:17) You must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die [so never eating from that tree means never dying]

Interestingly, the Scriptures are full of references to this earthly hope.
(Psalms 37:11) 'the meek will possess the earth'
(Proverbs 2:21) 'upright will reside in the earth'
(Isaiah 45:18) 'God formed the earth to be inhabited'
(Matthew 5:5) 'the mild will inherit the earth'
(Revelation 21:3) The tent of God is with mankind

They do not believe Jesus is the Son of God. They do not believe Jesus is God in the flesh. They believe only 144,000 JW's will go to heaven, the rest will stay on earth. (Check out Rev. 7 for the real 144,000...it is the Israelites!) They have added and taken away scriptures that don't fit their theology.

They are taught not to question their beliefs, not to "read the bible" but to read what the watchtower organization tells them to read...

They believe Jesus died on a stake and not a cross...they don't celebrate birthdays and holidays, receive blood transfusions or salute the flag...

Hope that helps!

Peace.

ok, my grandmother isa witness, so i know a lil about this... they are people who do not believe hell exist... they have changed the bible around... it is pretty mucc not based on the bible... certain parts are, but when you dig deeper, you see the falsities of the religion... they dont believe in celebrating christmas, birthdays, or anything else like that.. they believe that when we die, 144,000 go to heaven and the rest live on a new earth.. they believe the wicked simply cease to exist, they just stay in the grave.... they say GOD has turned his back on isreal... they only refer to GOD as JEHOVAH.... ITS A PRETTY MISLEAD BELIEF.

The think they know the God and Jesus better, and the think the have everything right. they don't celebrate birthdays, have crosses because they represent Jesus's death, and many other strange beliefs. they also come to your door trying to "sell" you their religion.
