I'm going to be moving to NYC after highschool to go to school and it's located in Manhattan. I'm considering moving to Long Island City in queens so that I can easily commute to Manhattan so I wanted to know if Long Island City is a affordable place to live for your average 18 or 19 yrs old?

You will definitely need roomates or something to live there. The price of living in NYC and even the surrounding towns is outrageous due to the number of people and the convenience. Most places you will be paying over $1000 a month (at least...usually more) and that is going to be outside of Manhattan for like a studio apartment.

No need of car. Since LIC is close to Manhattan, the rent there is high. The neighborhood has improved tremendously in the last 10 years with a lot of young professionals moving in because of the easy commute into Manhattan For a one bedroom apartment expect to pay more than $1200 a month. That's not too high considering it's half of what you would be paying if you lived across the East River.

I've lived in Astoria before and yeah, it's kinda like every other middle-class neighborhood in Queens. You can catch the trains R, N, or W and it's really quick going to Manhattan.

You will not need a car. In a three bedroom apt. with roommates, I would expect your monthly share of rent to be $500-$700 in Long Island City or Astoria.
