Mark 10:11 And He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her;

I was wondering if anyone knew of any good commentary on this verse or the subject of divorce in the Bible.

Any help would be great, thank you!

I don't know of a commentary. But i will tell you myself what it means. It means that divorce cannot be undone. That a union of the flesh in the natural law of marriage is as indissoluable as is a baby born from the womb.

You will recognize that it is divorce which begins the road to contraception and abortion. Sex and pleasure without consequence. Why not get married if you can always get divorced later. They are trying to undo that which cannot be undone, the ties of marriage that bind the flesh in an eternal covenant of their children. But in order to try to undo this they have invented condoms and abortion, so as to get rid of this.

Now if they are prostitutes or promiscuous all sleeping with one another they are likes grapes on a vine all mixed of the flesh. We see then if we kept GOD's WORD and remained TRUE to the COVENANT we would either remain celibate or we would marry just once, or in being widowed could marry again, but if in the flesh both shall live one going to another and taking them to wife, is adultery because the bonds of matrimony cannot be undone.

LOVE your neighbor as yourelf.
Amen.

A similar statement is mead at Luke 16:18. These verses seem to forbid all divorce by Christ's followersk or at least to indicate that a divorced individual would not be entitled to remarry except after the death of the divorced marriage partner. However Jesus words as recorded by Mark and Luke must be understood in the light of the more complete statement recorded by Matthew. He includes the phrase "except on the ground of fornication".. However a person is not Scriptually obligated to divorce an adulterous repentant person.

The bible says that the only grounds for divorce in the bible is adultry. If he becomes intimate with another women you have grounds for divorce. You can seperate if he becomes violent and there is the danger of physical abuse. In fact, you should seperate.
Also, the bible says that a man who doesn't support his family is worse than a man without faith. So you can divorce for wilful none support. He is just to lazy to work.
Adultry
abuse
non-support those are the three big ones.
they also have a pamplet for women that says don't marry and leave anyone who does these things.
illegal drugs abuser, alcoholic, gambler, adultry, smoke pot and excessive use of the lottery tickets, violent behavior.

According to the Bible, God’s plan is that marriage be a lifetime commitment

the bible makes it abundantly clear that God hates divorce and that reconciliation and forgiveness should be the marks of a believer’s life.. however, God recognizes that divorces will occur, even among his children. a divorced and/or remarried believer should not feel any less loved by God, even if their divorce and/or remarriage isn't covered under the possible exception clause of matthew 19:9 (cheating). God often uses even the sinful disobedience of christians to accomplish great good.

My understanding is if the man leaves wife and goes and remarries he has committed adultery. Due to God wants us to be married and stay married. Now if the man cheats and the wife leaves him because of the then she is not in Adultery. Now if wife commits adultery while married then she will be in adultery.

The only bible excuse to get a divorce and not be in adultery is if your husband/wife cheats on you.

It was common practice among the Jews of Jesus' day, when someone got tired of their own wife and saw someone else who interested them more to simply give their wife a bill of divorce and send her away, thus freeing them to pursue someone else. Jesus said if you look upon a woman to lust after her, you have already committed adultery in your heart. It is a matter of faithfulness. God says He hates divorce (Malachi 2:16), but these would use a legal technicality in the Law to divorce their wife. Jesus simply was saying - "You are not fooling God - He says that you are an adulterer, even though you try to make yourself appear justified before men."

1 Corinthians 7 becomes a commentary on marriage verses.

See also Matthew 5, and Matthew 19 as the Pharisees make inquiry of Jesus regarding the law of divorce.

Marriage was ordained by God in Genesis.
Divorce was ordained by Moses in Deuteronomy.

Back in them days, any man could divorce his wife, on any little whelm that overtook him, not serving him hand and foot in just the right way, putting to much or to little salt in the soup, not to mention her nightly duties, at the end of the day. I think all the man had to say is, I divorce you, three times, and she was officially out in the cold.
So the argument back then was, was it justifiable to divorce a woman for no reason, and marry another?

That is NOT what the verse says. And the next verse talks about the same with women. The KJV uses different wording which does not mention divorce and does NOT mean divorce either:

11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.
12 And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

To "put away his wife" means to keep her locked up because of something she has done to "wrong" him. History tells us this with the practices of the day.

Dear trish,

We read in 1 Corinthians 7:39, "The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord."

Now go back to mark chapter 10 and you'll see that divorce is sin.

I hope this helps you.
