Why? Because they want to claim to be righteous and good and everything so that their god will love them and take them to their made up heaven when they die, but sometimes they find the standards of "godly" life that they say are in that book of theirs to be too difficult to live up to, so they either break those rules and say they are human (which is true, they are) or they give you some double talk about how the rule doesn't say that or that there is an exception to it, or some other nonsense...
I used to try to live according to Christian ethics and it damn near drove me crazy with its inherent patriarchy and denial of female power, its violence and misogyny. I say that if they want to live by their book or not, let 'em! I am happy to be free of it and I live by my own sense of personal responsibility as a good Witch.
Bright Blessings,

What are you talking about?? Christians don't have to live by the bible, Jesus fulfilled the bible FOR them! Why do you think Christianity actually has the distinction of being the most bloody, heinous, murderous religion in all of recorded history.
Hell they don't even have any qualms about killing GOD'S brothers and sisters, the Jews! You'd think they'd at least have had some fear about doing that, at least, but nope, not an iota. Millions and millions of Jews murdered by Christians over the past 2000 years, the very bloodline brothers of their Messiah God/Jesus, but they don't bat an eye over it.
Could it be that they don't actually believe in their own nonsense then?

You know, I was just talking about Matthew 7:1 in a previous question. "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
In other words, I'll get to meet quite a few of these Y!A christians face to face in their version of the afterlife... that is, if they're right and I'm wrong.

"Judge Not..." etc. is found in Matthew 7: 1,2.
Later on in the same chapter (verse 20), we are told to judge people by the fruits of their lives.
Your quote of Mt. 7:1,2 leaves our 3,4 which gives 1,2 a context.
The message is to not judge by a double standard. We will all be judged according to God's standard. Holding someone to a standard that is beyond God's, and of our own personal choosing, means that we will be held accountable to THAT standard. It's a standard that ignores grace and mercy.
Keep your Bible quotes in context, and you will have better understanding.
The Bible was not written by Henny Youngman: it is not a book of one liners.

You haven't learned to ignore JayDee yet? I'm guessing that most believers think he is a loony.

Because it's impossible for any human to live up to the expectiations of Christianity- love your enemy, turn the other cheek, think/do no evil, etc.

I am a Christian because I am imperfect, not perfect. We all make mistakes and we all struggle with our more base instincts.
