It will make you stateless. What do you intend to gain?
You will still have to pay taxes while you are resident and as you have no state no other country is obliged to take you in.
I think it is correct to say that once you are British you are always British. This means that if you become say an American citizen and for any reason you lose that citizenship you will revert to being British.

An interesting case of r v William Joyce (Lord Haw Haw)
he was an American Citizen who obtained a British Passport under false pretences. it was adjudged that whilst that passport did not give him any rights he still has an obligation to the Crown. He hung. Obviously that judgement was controversial but I do not think it has been challenged

It makes you an expatriot to a certain extent; I do believe you will need to apply for citizenship if you wish to remain in USA. I can't even think of any country that will let you travel or be inland without a visa or passport or something that proves who you are and where you "belong". We have become a tight little world of labels and catagories and without them it makes free movement more difficult. You certainly got a few folks riled up with your question...

if you are relinquishing it and still living in the UK, you would then not be able to travel out, so not a very smart move, but methinks your not serious anyway.

So if you are relinqusihing it, are you taking any other ?

If English is your first language, then by all means move out & learn a language that you will be able to write!

Personally, I don't actually care what nationality you are. National boundaries are just another example of how those in power try to keep us suppressed.
