There are no calories in a pound. A calorie is a unit of heat energy, a pound is a unit of mass.

Or are you asking how many calories burn a pound of one's body fat?

1. Burn the substance in a Bomb Calorimeter. An open cup version may also work for a larger quantity, but precision suffers.
2. Measure the heat released by the small sample by measuring the change in temperature surrounding the Calorimeter.
3. Calculate and convert
Q=c(Tf-Ti)*Ms
Q(M)=Q*M/Ms

Q=heat, convert to calories depending on your other measurements.
c=specific heat capacity of bath
Ms=mass of sample
M= mass desired

In a pound of what? Of fat? - there are 3,500 in one pound of body fat. There are 600 calories in 1 pound of body muscle.

Now if your asking about ice cream, thats different.
