yes you are right. the orginal contract ends in January of 2009, went into effect Jan. of 1994 and was suppose to last 15 years.it will be up to the next President and Congress to deal with.if I were president then would not renew it then go to the border of Mexico and see what companies moved right over the border and make sure they paid a good import fee.

Hello,

You left out Canada which was first to sign on. No, NAFTA did not go far enough and ought to be run like the EUC with open borders letting people work where they want to. Up until now it has only been a half a ssed effort and I still have to pay taxes and duties buying things from the US.

As for border security, just make us fortress North America and take that approach. Have a common currency; some Americans won't like a maple leaf dollar, some Mexicans hate the American eagle so what do we have in common?
The monarch butterfly.

Failing to do this will bury us all economically in time. The EUC will forge ahead and China as well as India are going to bury us within the next 25 years. Chinese labour is cheaper than Mexico, I went to buy a beautiful black pottery from Oacaxa set at a terrific price here in Alberta. Lo and behold I checked the tags... made in China!

Definitely, NAFTA has not been kind to the average citizen in any of the countries involved... Just a money maker for the elite...

Not one state in the United States was immune to the job losses, every state lost jobs to NAFTA...

Vote for Ron Paul. He is the only real candidate that would get us out of NAFTA, the UN, and other disastrous treaties / organizations. A definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result. That is EXACTLY what the US (both libs and conservatives) has been doing in voting for the "main-stream" corrupt two party system.

I am. The Question is if the rich are ready. As for Poverty in Europe, well Europe had its Union long before our NAFTA.

When President Clinton was pushing NAFTA, he visited a company in southern California where a friend of mine worked and said "Not 1 American Job will be lost when this program is implemented". (I have a dupe videotape of his speech, and that's an exact quote) He was right. Not 1 job was lost. They ALL were lost. This company used to be an industry leader in their field and now you can get their product free with any purchase of 99 cents or more. 6 divisions out of 7 folded, and the one that is left is there in name only.
NAFTA was, and remains a disaster. It needs to go.

I actually agree with you on this. The problem with the global redistribution of wealth is that it leaves the wealthy nations and goes to the poorer nations.Other than losing 10,000,000 + manufacturing jobs to global outsourcing, how has America benefited from NAFTA?
(for the nay sayers, the 10,000,000 figure is a factual estimate, not just a number i pulled from thin air)

who cares about mexico, let those sobs rot. As for the US, poverty needs to be payed more attention too instead of people in africa. That will stop everyone from complaining then.
