Do you feel the local authorities in Richmond Virginia tried to cover this up? What punishment would be fitting for MICHAEL VICK, aka POS, if convicted of this act of torture? The max the law allows is 6 years and $350,000 btw.

This is why I think there was a cover up attempt. http://content.hamptonroads.com/story.cfm?story=125893&ran=122078&tref=po
Poindextor had no intention on executing a serch warrant.

I don't think the locals tried to cover anything up. Given the high profile status and size of this case, I'm guessing they asked for and were provided with Federal assistance. If convicted of these alleged crimes, I think he should rot in prison after he suffers repeated electrocutions, beatings, drowning episodes and temporary strangulation practices. Maybe an occasional pit bull attack on his genitals for good measure.

Personally, I think that due to the potential profile of this case, and that his personal fame may be influential to the local/state prosecution. Not to mention that the Federal Government will have more resources for financially prosecuting him "properly".

Also, the more severe of the penalties is a federal offense, and the state/local government can't prosecute those cases.

Would he have been indicted? I don't think so. I think his crimes at the local level wouldn't be as severe, and they couldn't use some of the evidence that they can use at the federal level.

Probably not. No I do not think they were trying to cover it up. Activities such as dog fighting and gamecock fighting are very prevalent throughout Virginia, the Carolinas, and Georgia. It's not considered acceptable but at the same time it is not considered as outrageous as it is in other parts of the country. They see animals as property (chattel) not pets or family members. They use them to make money.
Please don't get me wrong, I don't condone it. My dogs are part of my family! I just happen to have lived in the southeast for many years and I'm familiar with the mentality.

Though I'm not sure why you would think the local authorities would attempt to cover up this issue...I'd suggest you consider that maybe the local authorities conducted a joint investigation with the federal authorities.

The federal judicial system is less forgiving than local or state jurisdictions when it comes to drug offenses.

Best wishes.
