Not only does it contain sorcery, implications that HP is the antichrist...have any of you picked up on the homosexual man-boy love undertones between Harry and Dumbledore?

If you have kids, I feel extremely sorry for them, because JK Rowling is an amazing author with an incredible imagination. It bothers me that there are people like you in the world that ram your religion down other peoples' throats. Yes, we are sinful, and what are you going to do about it?

Have you actually read these books? I have and couldn't disagree more with these baseless statements. If you think HP and Dumbledore have a hs relationship, then you must think that every son and his father has one, too, because it's a father/son relationship. Is HP the anti-Christ because he's FIGHTING evil? Perhaps you missed the parallels between HP and real life lessons, such as "when good people stand by and do nothing, evil happens," or how HP demonstrates that even though one is continually beaten down, one can overcome and prevail. These books are eminently hopeful fairy tales. Also, the last time I checked, God was the judge, not you. Nice way to fan the flames of helpful dialogue. If you really had a case, why didn't you cite specific examples from the books and present an argument that way, instead of taking the easy way and just being inflammatory?

Are you serious?! For one, this isn't the only story in the world that has sorcery, and I don't see you complaining about those. For two, how can a fictional character be antichrist and why would it be Harry and not any of his wizard friends? For three, I can not believe you actually think that Harry and Dumbledore have a homosexual man-boy love. Their relationship has always strictly been a mentor-student friendship. I never read in the books that Dumbledore magicly held Harry down and raped him. Please, do some research before you make accusations. Have you even read the books or seen the movies?

At first I thought you were a trolll.... now that I know you're not, I'd have preferred it if you were.

HP teaches right vs. wrong, good vs. evil, and is great for the imagination. As for your homoerotic fantasies, if you had ever truly read what you denounce, you would know that Harry admires Dumbledore - he's a role model, as the boy has no parents.

I can't help you with the antichrist thing, perhaps the best thing you can do is go refill your anti-psychotic medications.

I'm a damn good mother and a proud HP fan, and so is my daughter. To answer your question, it's fun, it's interesting, it's intelligent, and unless my daughter is killing people, flying on a broom, or watching/reading HP in the middle of the street, that makes me neither sinful nor irresponsible.

Don't forget to refill those meds now.

Oh my. You're an idiot.

First, I will be reading Harry Potter. My kids can have the book AFTER I'm through with it.

Second, sorcery is fiction and fiction is harmless. It's not real, it's pretend and there's nothing wrong with encouraging a child's imagination.

Third, how is Harry Potter the antichrist, exactly? Do you read the same crack pot websites about George Bush and John Kerry being the antichrist because of the numbers of their name? Grow up.

Fourth, the stereotype that a man cannot take interest or care about a boy in his charge without there being some sort of sexual side to it is directly WHY so many men today feel like they cannot relate to other men without being labeled gay or a pedophile. Caring about someone does not have to be sexual, there is plent of platonic love in the world including the love between brothers, uncles and nephews, and Harry Potter and Dumbledore.

Focus on brainwashing your own children and leave me and mine alone, TYVM.
Peace,
Jenn

You are one of those over protective, annoying, controlling people who think they know everything and want to tell other people what to do. Just back off let and let us enjoy reading Harry Potter to our kids instead of calling us sinful and irresponsible. NO ONE execpt amish people will want to be your friend because you are sooo controlling and crazy. So please get off yahoo answers and leave us alone!!! And come on.. a 15 yr old and a 100 yr old? Do you have a brain? Its really sick that when two men are friends, the first thing you think of is sex. Maybe you should bring that up at the next Bible Study. Well, someone is trying to provoke a fight. . .
It's sad that you would read so much into a book (or more likely that you would just repeat the words of homophobic, irrational right wing Christians with too much time on their hands).
These books have incited a passion for reading among children (and adults) thatt very few other books have. I doubt any of your "godly" books would get children as excited as JK Rowling has. She deserves a medal for what she's done for literacy and imagination.
Just because a book contains magic, doesn't mean it is evil. If that were the case, we could cast the bible in the same terms. Moses parting the Red Sea, anyone? How about making wine from water or multiplying fish and bread more than a hundred fold? That sounds pretty magical to me. Of course, you'll say that was the word of god because you've probably bought that story, but how is it really any different than other books like Harry Potter that contain a bit of magic?
If you don't want your kids to read them, that's fine. It's your right, but don't knock something that has done so much good (I'm sure you're fuming about my bible comments- spin that around).
Of course, I'm sure you've probably never even read these books and you're just taking someone's word for it. How very very sad. I hope you don't stifle the imaginations of your children too much. I'll pray that they don't grow up to be like you.

Oh my dear, what a dirty mind you have. I must confess, I've read all the books and I'm eagerly awaiting the last one. Its a lovely fairy tale with classic elements of good and evil fighting battles for the hearts and minds of the people in the books. Its written in a grown up manner and doesn't write down to children which makes it so fascinating to them.
Your reference to a homosexual relationship between HP and Dumbledore is shocking, how do you ever think of things like that? Is every relationship between a grown man and a young boy tainted with homosexuality in your mind? How awful for you. Dumbledore is Harry's mentor, have you heard the term? There is nothing sexual about it.
I feel quite sorry for you, fantasy has no meaning for you, getting children to read things other than the drivel we give them in school is of no import to you. You see dirt and evil intent where there is none. It is not us who are irresponsible or sinful. Its you, reading your own flaws into a complex tale, one that has nothing at all to do with sexuality.

Is this a serious question?

I am a Christian and would never expose my children to anything harmful. But if you notice, these books are very accomplished works of literature. Just because there is an evil thing called "sorcery" that is real doesn't mean that the magic in Harry Potter has anything to do with it. If you know anything about REAL magic, it is NOTHING like the books.

I personally think the books are a great way to open up the conversation with kids about how there are real evils in this world, like sorcery, that they must watch out for. I also think the books are a great way to talk with your kids about being faithful to friends (no matter what their gender and age), being persecuted for believing something is true, being brave in the face of evil, sacrificing yourself for others, and many other Christian themes.

Don't be so close-minded. God chooses to reveal Himself through many forms.

I am extremely religious and that is why I know that religion means letting all types of possibilities open as long as nobody gets hurt.
By being narrow minded behind the excuse of religion means you arent allowing for a normal teacher-student relationship develop. Or for a regular older person have a connection with a younger person.
I am not even a christian but did u hear Harry say "merry xmas" or were you so consumed to hear that or u didnt care.
Every kind of thought, fantasy, version of life is possible and we should let other people live in peace is the real religion of life.
Good over Evil. Period.

Some christians hates harry potter. I find it ironic that the Christians are threatened by a fictional character who happens to be magical. The entire bible is designed to promote the concept of 'magical' happenings.Raising a dead man, feeding thousands with one fish, water into wine? I think if they accept Jesus actually doing these things, then it's OK for Harry Potter to do magic too.
