Well, that can be difficult because the US has quotas and unless you are skilled in a critical need area then you may not find it that easy to live and work there. The quotas system also indicate the number of people from a nation can come to the United States. If you have any questions you can talk to the US consular service in your nation.

I just moved from America to Scotland and I hope you have a more plesant time than I. Its very nerve wrecking to say the least and so many rules regulations and requirements you wouldn't believe. After 2 years I still had to go for a testing to get residency confirmed. Its nice to be rich, first off! [I'm not] but, I havent regretted it!

You need to A. Marry an American citizen
or B. Apply for a work visa or some sort of Green card. You need to show that you have valuable job skills that are needed in the states.
or C. Hop the Mexican border and wait a few years.

Welcome to the wacky world of American bureaucracy!
Don't you just love the red tape?
I do NOT have all the answers you seek.
And I'm not sure you have checked out the link posted below...if you have, sorry for repeating what you already know.
If not, read it and follow instructions.
You would be wise to schedule a visit with your local Dept. of Homeland Security, or if you have one, a visit with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
It is best to have a sit-down conversation with a real person instead of doing the work over a telephone or Internet.
Good luck!

Lots of money!!!
Seriously, you should contact the US embassy, or check
http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis
the websit for the US equivalent of our Home Office (I'm assuming you are British). You will find that, just as for people coming to the UK, it's less than straightforward, you need to be highly skilled, rich, or have someone there to sponsor you.
Good luck!

To be able to move to the USA permanently you have to apply for an immigrant visa. This can be done if you have
relatives living in US but it will take time. Another way is to
marry an American citizen. if it happens that you are a
nurse, doctor, engineer you can apply for a working visa
and once accepted then you can arrange your papers
for permanent residency.

You need a green card first. This makes a legal alien and elligible to live and work in the states. After a certain number of years (or is it a swearing in process?) you gain full citizenship.

This isn't America anymore - it is third world Amexica. LA is at the top of al qaeda's list to bomb so you would probably be safer where you are.
