if you find a nice double stoller at a second hand shop get it for those few outings where you will need it, but a three year old will want to walk most of the time.

There are a few choices now when looking at double strollers. After my second child was born, I bought a double stroller, the first one I looked at - BIG MISTAKE! It was very heavy, big and bulky, hard to fold up with a baby and a toddler. I ended up getting rid of it. Now they have these new sit'n stand strollers that I just love! They are great for busy toddlers that like to get in and out of strollers. They have a bench where the toddler can sit with a buckle. They are a little bigger than a single and weigh a lot less than most double strollers. I really like a double because older siblings will often get jealous of the baby and want to ride in the stroller too. If you do decide to get a double stroller, my best advice would be to look around and test them out in the store if you can. Think about how heavy it is, if you can open and close it yourself with a baby and toddler in tow, how much space it takes up and what kind of vehicle you have, and how easy it is to push and turn.

When my second child was born, the first was 2 1/2. We bought a double stroller, and it was not used very much. They are bulky, heavy and difficult to push and/or manuever through aisles.
We are now expecting our third child, and do not need a double stroller since the older two are 9 and 7. However, I saw a device with the stroller accessories at Babies R Us that allows you to connect two single strollers. That might be something you will want to look at and consider...it is not very expensive. You can get single strollers from $15 and up, I have seen some VERY nice ones for $40/each. You can probably find one that will work with the stroller you already have.
The thing that appeals to me about the connector, is that it would be easy to separate the two strollers if Dad was with you to push one, if you only have one child with you or if the older child wishes to walk instead of ride, etc.
Another thing to consider is that your 3 year old will probably not want to ride in a stroller for much longer, so the money spent on a double stroller would be wasted.
Good luck deciding!
EDITED TO ADD: Another thing to consider might be a "Buggy Board". It is a pedestal that attaches to the stroller so that your child would ride behind the stroller, between you and the stroller. It folds up when not in use. It adds little weight to the stroller and would be a lot less expensive than purchasing a new double stroller. Your older child could ride on it, when she wanted, and the baby could ride in your current stroller.
There are also Sit and Stand strollers, where there is a regular stroller seat and then an area behind that for an older child to either stand and ride, or sit down on a little padded seat (facing you).
Check out http://www.OneStepAhead.com -they have a lot of innovative products. Again, good luck deciding!

I would go for the single stroller, your child will be 3 and will be able to walk with you. Not only that but he/she will most probably want to walk. That is what I do. The double strollers are extremely bulky, and take up allot of room. Especially if you go into a store.
Stick with the single one you will be glad you did.
By the way, good luck with your soon to be new baby.

depends, i had a good double stroller that i got from target for 25 that worked great for my toddlers till i broke it. I now have a 3 yo who wants to ride but i don't have room for her anymore (or she'll double up in the single stroller with the 2 yo). depending on the errands that need to get down depends on who rides and walks. most days my 2 yo rides in the stroller, my 3 week old gets carried in a snuggli and the 3 yo walks, if weather is bad then 2 and 3 yo walk and baby is in the stroller.I had a sit and stand stroller for a while but i wasn't impressed with it. my daughter didn't like it.
right now we have a big travel stroller and an umbrella stroller (use both when hubby is here to help) both single.
looking for a good double jogger right now.

Well my son was almost 3 when my middle child was born and I just let him walk, if it was going to be a very long distance then I would put the baby in a carrier, but we didn't even consider a double buggy however I have one now as son number 2 and son number 3 are 13 months apart and quite frankly I hate it and never use it I always use a single and the carrier although I am looking to find a better double buggy.

When we go any where if we are going to out walking for a long time, we have to take 2 strollers a single for my son and a double for the babies. If you plan of taking them out alone, get the double. It is hard to keep up with a toddler and a baby alone. It just makes it easier. My 2 1/2 yr old still likes to ride, even though he can walk.

Sounds like agood idea but i would not buy it from a second hand shop i did that and ended up having to buy a new one after because it didnt glide smoothly. Also they have strollers at baby's r us that are cool your infant goes in the front like a regular stroller and then there is a bench like seat in the back that your older child sits on that faces you so its like hes hitching a ride its really cute and perfect for a one small child and one older child! Its not as bulky and looks like a regular stroller from the front and then your other child is tucked away in the back! Good luck!!!

I bought a double stroller when my 2nd was born, but didn't like it as much as my single stroller. It was too big and bulky. Instead I used a baby sling to carry my newborn and pushed my oldest in the stroller. After the baby got big enough, she used the stroller and my oldest walked. So I guess it depends on if you feel like dealing with a bulky stroller or carrying a baby sling.

I would do a double for sanity. 3 yr olds are hard to control - they don't exactly follow you around the mall. If other 3 yr olds are like mine, she was running all over stores and climbing up everything. My daughter was in a stroller until she was 4.
