I admit I get really irked when people start ganging up on the Catholics mainly because thier assumption are completly wrong and totally biased, but I am Pagan. I also tend to defend any Christian who asked a respectful question and gets bashed by other Christians. Anyone else do that?

Ohh oops! I meant that people's assumptions about Catholics are wrong and biased. That sounded wrong.

actually, yes! I am Unitarian Universalist Pagan, and I choose to learn about and be respectful of the spiritual paths of others. It really frosts me when I come across knee-jerk ignorance in any form. It is just disrespectful.

Great question! Blessed be...

Well to defend my own faith, I'd like to know what assumptions of ours are wrong and totally biased? I think we're greatly misunderstood. That's the main problem.

I have defended muslims, and fundies when they're getting unfairly bashed.

On the other hand I've noticed that hanging out in R&S has made me a bit more argumentative. The other day I was in the vegetarian section, and was about to ask why vegetarians eat poor plants that can't defend themselves. I was going to call them vegies instead of fundies. Then I realized someone already asked that question.

I'm agnostic and i think everyone that thinks they've got religion right is an egomaniac of sorts. I support peoples right to believe what they want to, but put in my 2 cents in my comments as well. You said in your very post that catholics are completely wrong and totally bias. Really, how do you know that? Pagan is a religion based on faith and lack of reason just like the catholics so they would say the same about you. There's no way you can say they're wrong. You seem to not like seeing people berated who don't have the intellectual capacity to defend themselves but are very similar to the very people you defend against in that you verbally denounce others' beliefs, faiths, and passions when you have no proof that they are incorrect or even have the right to do so.

I'm an atheist, though not as hardcore as some because I think God actually does exist in the subjective experience of those who believe in Him. Usually, I'm busy defending atheism with the best reason and logic I can muster. When I do occasionally defend believers, it is because someone has denied their right to have an opinion of their own. Though I may strongly disagree with most believer's views, I do absolutely support each person's right to have an opinion of their own. Just because I attack the merits of much religious thinking, it does not mean that my opponent is not entitled to his own opinion.

Having said that, I confess that fundamentalists really know how to push my button, and their persistent intolerance just gets me where I live. I can't count the number of angry answers I've written in response to Fundie provocations and have then discarded because I finally realized I'd been manipulated by their chronic hate-mongering. Too often, one of my diatribes survives to get posted -- proving that hatred only begets more hatred.

I'll stand up for anyone I think is doing the right thing in a particular instance. (I've even given a few thumbs-up's to JWs here and there, though they'd never know that.)

Good people are everywhere. That's what humanity is about. And trite as it may sound, there's at least some good in all religions.

Pagans/Wicca I have because there are some serious mischaracterizations and sometimes people say really off based things about them. I don't necessarily if they are on to speak for themselves which I think is better but I have read a few books and if they are lightly represented at that moment and no one is chiming in I go ahead.

I don't stick up for faiths i stick up for good arguments. Very often i pick best answers that i don;t agree with if they provide the best argument. People should put little value in faith but the value of a well stated point/argument is much more valuable.

Yes, many times. I've stood up for Wicca, Judaism, Unitarian Universalism, Eckankar, Santeria, Mennonites, Quakers, Presbyterians, LDS, Swedenborgians, atheists, Pentecostals, Muslims, and many other religions, denominations, and beliefs. I'm Roman Catholic, myself.

Constantly. I'll defend any religion that's getting attacked for no reason other than the questioner's prejudice/hatred. I've stood up for Muslims, Catholics, Mormons, JWs, etc., and I'm Jewish.

Speaking just for myself, I look for intelligent discussion. Abuse I can find anywhere. You have to give some of the above to get some of the above.

I just ignore the junk and take what I can use. Bashing doesn't CONVINCE anybody of anything. Total waste of time.
