*The Sharpie 500 at Bristol in August is tops on my list. It has the most action and competitive racing under the lights.

* The Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte is also very good if you are a true racing fan. The length of this race and being under the lights give you the most bang for your buck.

* The historical Daytona 500, like you mentioned, is a must see. But be sure to set up high so you are able to see all of the track. Also be sure to check out the fanzone ( the driver interaction is amazing)

* The Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond is very exciting. Being the last race before the chase, this night race will make or break some drivers' seasons. The prerace is jam packed full of concerts also.

* The last on my list is the Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The last race of the season has the potential to determine the champion. It is a beautiful track with the backstretck lined with palm trees. (You also have an excuse to spend the weekend in Miami)

Obviously Bristol tops everyone's list. If you go in the spring, you don't need to buy tickets in advance, there are tons available at the track or on the track website. They have a cool fan ticket swap where the tickets cannot be sold for more than face value. Most of these are being sold by people who get the season ticket package who only want the night race.

If you are a true race fan, then head to Indy. This is where good ol American racing began almost 100 years ago. You cannot see more than about 1/2 the track, but they have installed jumbotrons all around the infield facing the stands. The spectacle of Indy makes it worth it.

Daytona, either race, but next year is the 50th anniversary of the 500. The weather is great in Feb, but hot and muggy in July.

Bristol baby!
Short track, tons of crashes, tempers & excitement!
I think you'll be on waiting list for ticklets though. I hear this track is sold out a year + in advance. Best shot would be included in a travel/tickets package deal maybe.

Bristol & Lowes are fun.

I think that you should try to hit some of the historical ones though if you can.

Darlington, Talladaga, Rockingham would also be cool just to see.

Chicago Land is not a great track. It's cookie cutter boring.
You should go to these tracks:
Bristol
Talladega
Darlington
Daytona
Richmond
