I noticed this yesterday too. One of my budgies is an yellow faced albino budgie and i bought him and the other one 3 days ago and i can see him picking at his feathers. Its not even that hes picking at them but it looks like hes grabbing onto the feathers and like straightning them out. At this very moment hes doin it. I see no feathers falling off when he does this but he does it all over many times during the day. Is this normal??

lol. Dont worry hes not picking them out. He is either cleaning them or hes getting new feathers. Birds love to keep themselves clean on a daily basis. So dont worry when you see him doing this. As long as you dont find alot of feathers on the bottom of the cage there is nothing to worry about. Birds go thru what is called moulting. This is when they loose alot of their feathers over a few days to a week and grow new ones in. This keeps their feathers health and a bird will moult depending on the season, its age, where it lives, its size, and species. But if you see him forcefully pulling them out he could be doing this because of stress. He may need new toys and more attention. Also make sure the he is getting a proper diet and that you are covering him at night and when he gets stressed. When a bird gets new feathers in they are covered in a white casing that the bird must break oven to fluff up the feather. So if you see your budgie doing this you may want to mist him with some warm water to help him out with the casings. When you mist him make sure that he drys in a warm, draft free place so he doesnt catch a cold. Your bird is doing something that is totally normal and healthy for a bird. No worries. Make sure that you give him a little water bowl to take bird baths in also. and Good Luck :-)

Just cleaning. The time to worry is when your bird pulls feathers out.

Sounds like he is just grooming (cleaning) his feathers.

attempt rubbing his feathers with bitter listerine. not the minty stuff however the yucky stuff. might you want to lick that? i might attempt that to make certain if it helps. elementary on the exterior via fact it particularly is perhaps to be soft.
