WASHINGTON — In every emphatic way, President Bush has declared repeatedly that his immigration bill does not offer amnesty.

And then, on Tuesday, he said it did.

"You know, I've heard all the rhetoric — you've heard it, too — about how this is amnesty," Bush told advocates of his immigration overhaul. "Amnesty means that you've got to pay a price for having been here illegally, and this bill does that."

That's not what Bush meant. Saying that his bill included amnesty was the last thing he meant.

When word started to get out about the gaffe in media reports, the White House scrambled to fix it.

White House press secretary Tony Snow issued an unusual statement to, in essence, correct his boss.

Bush has been out of office for years. A bill he supported when president, which never passed, couldn't matter less.

Jorge Bush is full of crap! They kept saying it wasn't amnesty because they know Americans are against it.

They think we are total idiots. We aren't because we saw through their lies!

EDIT: Hey Sally, I typically vote Republican and I think Jorge is an idiot!

Stupid blunder on his part but he was right the other times he talked about it not being amnesty. Amnesty rewards criminals with NO punishment. Illegally crossing the border is a misdemeanor and last time I checked those that commit misdemeanors don't get hardened time unless they are repeat offenders..You usually get a slap on the wrist and plenty of fines. The proposed immigration bill would have charged illegals fines and that is NOT amnesty. That is a punishment. Same punishment my brother got for breaking a window at a store. Hefty fines.

He knew what it was all along & finally admitted it. It's not time to make new laws so fewer are breaking the law. It's time to enforce our laws so fewer are breaking the law.
