I am experimenting with different foods and am thinking of making a grilled squash and chicken salad. If i can come up with a good way to do it. I'd like to put a couple of grilled asparagus spears across the top of it. Can asparagus be grilled and if so has anyone ever had it grilled - is it good that way? Thanks in advance.

yes, they are excellent,... you can also make a marinade of italian dressing and set them in it for 30 min before grilling, don't over cook, they should be crunchy, takes about 10 min, not high heat....

Grilled Asparagus Spears Recipe courtesy Bob Blumer

1 pound fresh asparagus, trimmed and peeled, see Cook's Note
4 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon salt

Preheat a grill.
Place asparagus on a plate. Drizzle oil over the asparagus and turn spears until they are coated. Sprinkle with salt and turn again.

Grill asparagus for 5 minutes over a hot grill. Each minute or so, roll each spear 1/4 turn. Asparagus should begin to brown in spots (indicating that the natural sugars are caramelizing) but should it not be allowed to char. Dripping oil may cause flare-ups. Keep a glass, or spray bottle of water handy to spritz on coals, if necessary.

Remove from grill and serve immediately (eating spears with your fingers enhances the experience).

Cook's Note: Look for firm asparagus stalks with firm deep green or purplish tips. Also check the bottom of the spears. If they are dried up, chances are they have been sitting around for too long. Trim off the tough bottom of the spear by grasping each end and bending it gently until it snaps at its natural point of tenderness, usually 2/3 of the way down the spear. If the spear is less than 6 inches long, chances are it has already been trimmed for you. Then take a vegetable peeler and peel off the outer skin of the lower half of the remaining stalk.

It's the best grilled because you get that "crunch" and buttery flavor.

Marinated Grilled Asparagus
* 1 pound fresh asparagus
* 3 tablespoons lemon juice
* 1/4 cup olive oil
* 2 clove garlic, minced
* 1 1/2 teaspoons dill weed
* salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste

PREPARATION:
Remove the bottom third of the asparagus (woody parts of the stalk) and discard. Place asparagus in casserole dish. Add remaining ingredients. Marinate at least 1 hour, turning frequently.

Place skewers through the middle of the asparagus spears, or place spears in a greased grill basket. Grill over hot coals until tender but still crunchy. Garnish with diced red bell peppers and lemon slices.

This recipe is for a basic method for grilling asparagus.
INGREDIENTS:
1 pound asparagus
PREPARATION:
Cut off dry ends from the asparagus, soak in cold water for 30 minutes. Place on clean grilling surface (careful not to let them fall through) until ends begin to soften. Turn (or roll) perpendicularly across the grill. Be careful not to burn...it does not take long....maybe 4/6 minutes per roll....browning all sides...

Grilled asparagus is amazing. On recent recipe i have heard of that sounds delish is to dip the asparagus in olive oil, then roll in sugar, place on the grill until sugar is carmelized and eat.... soubnds perfect for a topper for this dish. I aklso had some grilled asparagus diced up and put in a carne asada burrito...That was tasty.

Yes grill asparagus is delicious. Simply toss in olive oil, salt and pepper and grill for about 4 minutes. It's great.

I wouldn't blanch (boil) it first. It overcooks too easily. It does grill wonderfully. Try this, you will not be sorry. Drizzle a little olive oil over cleaned, fresh asparagus. Sprinkle with kosher salt to taste. Wrap each spear with a thin slice of proscuitto.

Grill over hot coals until proscuitto is crispy & spears are bright (just a couple of minutes). You don't even have to secure the proscuitto, the heat shrinks it & it adhears by itself.

This is delicious, I promise.

i've got not tried that dish, yet I fix grilled asparagus for all time & everybody loves it! Take asparagus & snap off ends, rinse, then marinate in a ziplock bag with extraordinarily spiced italian dressing for sort of an hour. place asparagus in center of extensive piece of foil, then upload some cloves of garlic minced, a pair of lemon slices & a splash butter. Seal pouch, then prepare dinner over medium coals til asparagus is fork comfortable.......is going super with thick cut back Rib-eyes.....

That is the absolute best way to cook asparagus.....I soak mine in water for about 5-10 minutes.....then I season it with some EV Olive Oil.......salt and pepper and then place on a HOT grill for a few minutes rotating constantly.....it cooks really quick and you want it to be crisp still and not mushy!
