I think I came pretty close to being killed in the dream, then suddenly at the last moment I woke up with cold chills.

Death in dreams will symbolize major change, either change currently happening in your life, or change that you want to happen.
And change, can be a very scary thing ;)

I'm not afraid of death (my own) so I don't wake up scared or anything. Now, if it was a friend or family member, then I wake up feeling like I was somehow responsible for it. I normally call the person first chance I get and just talk to them. Most times, as weird as this is, the person was saddened by me for things that I didn't even realize I had done. It has happened to me once or twice, though...

When you are about to die in a dream you wake up this will happen to most people some time in there life.

iv been stabbed in dreams and woken up with the feeling still there... infact i walk around with shooting pains through the place i was "stabbed" for the rest of the day... i think when you are asleep your body takes on board the emotions you feel while you are sleeping and then when youve woken up it takes a while for you consciouse self to get over it
