inner desire to do what ever you please with no consequences or repercussion (spiritually) that led you to turn your back on the God of your ancestors.? Just asking.

Why am I an Atheist? Is that what you are asking? I'll tell you. I used to be a sincere Christian. I used to attend a church regularly; read Bible; and pray several times a day. Yet I believed my prayers were answered. It looked like they were answered.

Once a personal matter had arisen and I prayed about it once again. I prayed like never before. I prayed with all my heart. That thing I prayed for was very important to me; however, that prayer was not answered.

I looked at the sky and I spoke to God one last time. I said: "Almighty Lord, if you know what's important to me, why did you not help me? You did not help the person who'd been loyal to you for such long time. If you are there, help me, please!" - muffled cry in the desert that was.

I've got no help from above. I have not prayed, gone to the church, or read the Bible ever since. If it was true what the Bible says, why did I get no help that time? No God had helped me, because THERE IS NO GOD UP THERE!!!

I don't call myself a Christian anymore.

I REFUSE TO BE ONE.

It was the complete lack of evidence for the god and the ridiculous and contradictory stories written about him.

As an atheist I have to be much more careful with my conduct than you. If I decide to go on a burglary spree and kill everyone in my path, I go to prison for life and I know full well that I have squandered all the life I have. You can do the same, repent and accept Jesus in prison, and believe that you will be given an eternal life of reward.

Is that why you believe those fairy tales? so you can do whatever you wish and believe you will be forgiven and rewarded?

I had a normal British education, which involves mild religious education and singing hymns and other nonsense in the morning. None of this affected my knowledge about god, or rather the lack of any god.

I was born an Atheist and I have seen absolutely nothing in my 40 something years to change my mind.

well well, who swallowed the ignorant pills this morning then?

your 'God' is NOT the god of MY ancestors, so that is the 1st wrong fact you state.

2nd, my god and goddess have been a constant source of inspiration, respect and tolerance.

3rd, i do not do whatever i please without any thought of consequences or repercussions, as i have a strong moral code that i need no 'religion' to hold over me as a threat in case i am 'naughty' or 'sinful'.

do you? or is every word, action, thought, cause, consequence and deed of yours completely ruled by your faith? do you never 'sin'?

are you a paragon of virtue? could you live 'righteously' without your bible to guide you?
do you have the ability to think original, well thought-out, rational, reasonable ideas?

hang on, i think i know the answer to that one...

i saw, 1st hand, religion - via a catholic upbringing and in a (mostly) christian family.
the hypocrisy of SOME followers (i found a minority were genuine, loving people), the arrogance, ignorance, tunnel-visioned bigoted view - they kind of put me off!

looking back now, i see why i had an affinity with one of my uncles, who walked the mountains, built cairns, collected certain rocks and stones, thought and lived a certain way; these things appealed to me.

what do you base your morals on? rules and regulations? or your own brain?
just asking

i will ask for blessings for you and your small-mindedness and your childish need to insult people and ways of living you know nothing about

blessed be

My ancestors had different gods. To which are you referring?

Your assumption that hedonism is the cause of atheism is ludicrous, by the way.

I'm an atheist because it is the only rational and logical thing for me to be. I don't believe in things for which there is no evidence.

I don't know what a "liberal" education is

but Religious education is mandatory and i had to go to sunday school classes

The god idea is silly Unless you can provide evidence that your god exists how I came to my atheism is completely irrelevant

None of the above. I just didn't have any experience or evidence that led me to believe that my ancestors were correct about that particular issue.

Atheism is NOT an "inner desire to do what ever you please with no consequences or repercussion". Perhaps I will answer your question if you ask it without the leading statements that make you look like a supreme douchebag.

Just my own. I cant believe in something I cant see, feel or hear. god is something that you cant see, some say you can talk to him in prayer and he answers prayer. He answers in his own way and his own time. Who is to say that is just the way life is without any invention from a god? Some say you can feel him, your mind can make you believe and feel anything you want it to.

There is a consequence for every action. We don't just do what we please as you suggest. We do have morals, we are human beings just like you are!

Noah's ark and all of it's illogic was the last straw for me.

If I had stayed by what my parents taught me I'd still be a brainwashed fairy-worshiper like yourself. The public school system did not fail me.

It is physically impossible to turn your back on something that does not exist.
