If taking a test were mandatory, like drivers ed/driving tests, before you could give birth or adopt a child, what questions would you put on the test? What criteria would have to be met?

How do you remove a lego wedged in the farth depths of a child's nose? How do you remove a splinter from the bottom of a child's foot without her shattering the sound barrier with her screams? What do you do with a 55 gallon aquarium after your 3 year old has "fed" your fish with baby powder? How do you keep your cool when you are trying to help your oldest child with her algebra (something you haven't thought about in 20 years!) while your youngest is pointing his finger one inch from his older brother and saying "I'm not touching you!" while the older brother is screaming "I swear I am going to snap that finger right off!" all the while talking to his girlfriend on the phone.

I would make a psychiatric evaluation mandatory before having children. A credit check and proof of income for at least two years prior to pregnancy would be good too. I'd also interview friends, family, and ex-girlfriends/boyfriends.

If you had a good job that first of all could support 3 people then.

But I think its all just a learning experience throughout the whole thing. You always think your ready for a child. But you never really are. So much more work then they look. hah

Are you willing to give your heart and soul for another person?
Are you willing to spend countless hours waking up to tend to your child for bad dreams, warm milk, and diaper changes?
Are you able to make up fun games at the drop of a dime to keep a child happy when they claim to be bored?
Can you care for someone else?
Can you put someone else before yourself?

I could go on and on...I'm a mother of three and love every minute of it....but some people just shouldn't be allowed to have kids.

I think making it necessary for the potential parent being able to take care of themselves in the first place is pretty important. I know too many people (like my ex) who aren't responsible enough to take care of even themselves, let alone another human being.

i think you should have to be tested in emergency and non-emergency situations while only having 3 hours sleep for 2 weeks in a row! :)
