My mother has been paying the house. As soon as she got a job, the man i call my father quit his. Now he's been sitting around not giving a damn. He's lazy, he doesn't help in anything, and he doesn't care that we're about to lose the house because my mother just can't pay it. I've applied for several jobs, and now I have to wait impatiently for one of them to respond. I've been trying to get father to care, to get a job, but he just won't get one. It's like everything I say goes through one ear and out the other. I feel so desperate, I don't know what to do anymore. How can I convince father to get a job?

your father might have some depression or other problems which he is not facing.

it's not your fault, nor is it your responsibility to take care of your parents' issues; however your wilingness to help is commendable...

your mother has decisions to make when it comes to your father. speaking as a woman, i wouldnt put up with him at all...

you can't do anything.... you can't make your father care or get a job.

sounds like he needs help.

i hope you get some good advice/answers here

Your father probably cares and loves you very much but he can't show it. You and your mother always criticize him and he probably feels like a failure and doesn't even want to try anymore because it will never be good enough to please you and your mother. You should not be lecturing your father, you are the child he is the parent making him feel like a failure wont make him feel like you care or love him and he will think why bother trying to show or tell her I love her because she doesn't even respect me. He sounds like he is very depressed and maybe he should see a Dr. and get antidepressants to help him.
You need to sit down and "LISTEN" to your dad's reason for not wanting a job and let him talk for a change! Try helping him in some way instead of making him feel like a loser.

You can express your concerns to him, but you can't make him get a job. Chances are there's a reason he doesn't want to or can't get a job that you're not aware of.
