and expound the most of Christian 'values' ....

seem to be the ones with the least love in their hearts? Like maybe they don't 'get' it yet and are still trying to find 'the answer' in a book instead of in God?

I'm not trying to be mean, but this is my honest observation.

for the record, I am a Christian and kno w the bible. But I'm a 'liberal' Christian who believes Jesus's words trump all. So please do not assume I'm not a Christian because I think differently than the conservative christians.

Personally, I did not find my "answers" in a book. I found them through prayer. I do "get" it. Please try to see things from a Christian's perspective. We only wish that you could find the joy and happiness we have experienced through prayer and scripture study. I agree, some claim to be Christian and then seem to be quite hateful, but not all. Please do not lump all of us together like that. Thanks!

Fancy That...

Depending on the situation and the questioner, I will personally use quotes IF it seems appropriate.

However, each individual is of a different personality, and since the Bible HAS stated that we should use scripture OFTEN when reproving, rebuking, exhorting, etc., some take this to mean it to be exclusive of anything else lest they should be in error.

We all have different talents and skills as well... some have a hard time communicating their thoughts and feelings whether on-line or in person... using Scripture allows them some freedom that they otherwise do not have... and I do not believe it is an indication of whether they have little or no love in their hearts...what is true for one is not true for them all and to place them (us) all into the same neat little labeled package is wrong...

Peace be with you :)

**spacelover... Non Christians whom use quotes from the Bible do not have to be "learned" at all... the on-line Bible makes it very easy for people to get whatever quote they are looking for by typing in a word they wish to expound on....

There may be a few that quote the Bible for wrong reasons. However, there are many people that know the Bible and read it regularly, but only quote it at appropriate times. You may not notice these people as much as the pharisaical ones as they do not draw as much attention to themselves.

However, you can not separate finding an "answer in a book" from God. The Bible is God's Holy Word and you can not separate His words from Him. I think what you probably mean is that you can have much knowledge of God's Word without it affecting your day to day life and condition of your heart. Not everyone who reads the Bible and claims to be a Christian is born again of God's Spirit. It is a sad and humbling truth that Jesus taught, "Not everyone who says to me Lord, Lord will inherit the kingdom of Heaven." Instead of being upset and angered by hypocritical Christians (God knows their hearts whether they are His children or not), please pray for them that God would open their hearts to Him.

In case you haven't heard the bible is the true inerrant word of God. If the one who spouts off the scriptures and does not practice what they preach then yes they are being hypocritical. Never condemn the Word of God. And oops here comes a quote of scripture"In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God" (book of John Chapter 1;1) Yes you are right in your observation but not in all cases. It is a sad thing that we do not learn from our reading of the Word but use it to condemn others without first looking @ our own hearts. Cheers!

If the Bible is the rule book and people ask about Christianity, then one is going to quote the rule book.I can quote the Bible "ad nauseum" but I have a ton of love for folks.I'm a big bear hugger.I know people like to take quotes and beat people over the head with them and that is not cool.Ususally they try to use the Old Testament to condemn someone.

It has always seemed to me that these people are the most insecure with their faith. It's like they have to yell it from the top of the mountain hoping that God is watching their faithfulness so they can get extra brownie points. Unfortunately, having faith is the greatest virtue to have as a religious person. I say unfortunately because if someone questions an extremist's faith, this is considered the worst kind of offense and results in hatred.

Good news everyone!

At least the non-christians are using the bible to prove their points and not just based on "accept Jesus into your heart and you will be saved" mentality. Don't you think that non-christians are better knowledgable about the bible itself than most of the people claiming to be christians?

I love it when christians are cornered with biblical passages that are against their belief then resort to statements about "faith", "love" and "redemption" because it only shows that they are willling to reject the bible itself to follow the teaching of their respective churches.

No offense but I believe I said the truth...

Which Christians have you seen with hardly any love in their hearts? Do you mean in RL or here on Y!A? Because in both places, the only Christians I have come across are very loving -- to God and towards everyone else.

The only truth is within the pages of God's word to us.
We have to be diligent learners of that truth. When we go teaching we cannot be mushy or half-hearted. We must be serious because lives are in danger.
This is an extremely bad situation mankind is in.
They blaspheme, they commit sins, they deny God exists or blame him for everything bad.

They don't realize they are under Satans control as he is the ruler of this system of things.
Have you ever wondered why people do bad things and the badness spreads? It's because Satan believes when God tells him his time is almost up..and he wants all of you to be destroyed with him.

Hearts and flowers won't do here...we tend to want to scream..."Hey, All you who want life Follow Us." For Jesus is leading us to the fountains of the waters of life and he will reside with us and make us as was originally purposed.

Jesus is the only way...follow his footsteps closely.

I've found that when you pray and are seeking Gods wisdom and guidance, often before going into Scripture, God can reveal the answers in His Word aka The Bible. What do you think the odds are that you can pray about something and look into Gods word and find the exact answer? If you seek Him wholeheartedly He will reveal Himself and more times than not, He reveals Himself and the answers regarding life's issues in His word.
