Im 5'2 and 86 pounds, how much sodium is too much for my body size?

I had a salt craving yesterday and ate half a bag of saltine crackers, and 2 servings of crab meat. I bloated up like crazy, and when I read the nutritional value on the crab it said 670 mg of sodium per serving..

Ive been looking at the stuff I usually eat, and most of it has at least 250 mg of sodium per serving, so now im worried that I might be taking in too much sodium. Can it hurt your body to have too much, or will it only make you bloated?

too much salt over time, will definitely cause damage to your body. The average human only needs 2 grams of sodium in a day, so obviously you went waaaaay over that with the crackers and crab and everything else you may have consumed in that 24 hours that has any salt in it. You need to be much more aware of your salt intake obviously.

Yes, one can eat too much sodium, yes it can hurt your body if you have too much, and yes, it can make you bloated. As far as whether or not you're eating too much, I would have to do some research. It may also be that you're allergic or sensitive to crab or to the chemicals that are added to it to color it and to preserve it, have you considered that? 5'2" and 82lbs, is tiny, tiny, so it's going to take far less of something to affect you than it would say someone 5'11", 208lbs. I think the average salt allowance per day is in the 1,000's of milligrams, but you or I will have to look it up to find out just exactly how many it is. I know Campbell's Chunky Soups supply like 1500mg ++ per serving, and that that's still not the entire day's supply/suggested RDA. Sometimes craving salt like you're speaking about is indicative of a thyroid issue (ie, You're craving the iodine in the salt; usually it's about an underactive or hypothyroid condition, but not always, so get yourself checked out.)

There are many reason why one may crave salt. I crave it because I have adrenal fatigue. Another reason can be mineral lacks.

Here is one site I found that mentions this: http://ezinearticles.com/?Why-Do-I-Have-Salt-Cravings?&id=376002

You may also want to do a search on, homeopathic cell salts, they can replace mineral lacks at the cellular level unlike supplements. I have a site page I made for information on cell salts: http://www.geocities.com/fblooms//homeopathy.html
