It isn't so much that most military people put the service before family, as the service puts ITSELF before family.

They are trained to do so and while it seems, i guess mean, or cruel, its really something that comes in handy. When marines put family before Corps its often times dangerous as they need to be concentrating on something corps related.

My husband is deployed overseas and I tell him every time I speak to him that we are fine and to concentrate on what hes doing. I would much rather him never think about us, and only the enemies which he is fighting, than to think about us, and get hurt.

I served in the Marines and my family came first. Once they were ok I focus on my job. I've known Marines who put the Corps first and they are no longer married or see their families.

Like Lisa said, her and her husband are divorced. They may be putting the corps first, but a real man would put his family first!

It's true that ALL military people put their jobs before their families. They get shipped overseas, and they have to be away from their families for 6-18 months at a time. Thus, job coming before family.

Take Care

I was married to a marine, and he always said he was married to the Corps first.

That is their intent, but in reality, it does NOT work out that way. Blood is thicker than water. For most people, the priorities are God, family, and lastly everything else.
