My son has recently been dragging around his blankets and I was wondering to the mothers who have children that cling to a specific thing for comfort should I stop this blanket thing before it gets out of hand or pray he grows out of it.

don't take your child's lovely away. right now my 3 yo has a teddy that goes every where she does and my 2 yo has a blankie that he has to have every night. It allows them to feel safe and calm themselves. my son still has his blankie when he starts school i've read about lots of things to help with giving it up but i have a few years for that.

My daughter loves her " blue blanket" and does not go to sleep with out it, nor does she go many other places without it ( we do not allow it while eating or shopping etc). She is 3 1/2. It is a security for her that she can completely control- unlike the security of a parent. Most children grow out of it. They may still want it at night ( no harm done there right?) but during the day they discover there are many exciting things to do and carrying a blanket may hold them back! :) I would not worry about it. Set reasonable guidelines so they do not destroy it and enjoy the time with your child!!

My daughter has a stuffed Curious George that she pretty much takes with her everywhere, except outside because she doesn't want to get him dirty (she even sleeps with him). I think it's completely innocent when they have a favorite thing. Let them keep it around, unless it is harmful of course, like falling to pieces that they can choke on. They always eventually grow out of it. How many teenagers do you see going around carrying blankets or stuffed animals all the time? LOL

Hi, How old is your son? Mine will be 5 next month and still carries around his blanket! It happens mostly when he's sleepy and he does still sleep with it. He's had it since the day he was born. It's a security thing for him, so we let him keep it. We don't let him take it out in public though. Besides it's white, uh...used to be white! :)

One of my three year old twins is attached to electric cords, phone cords, coaxial cables...anything that is a cord. Not to mention "machines" specifically vacuum cleaners. Also, calculators, keys AND a stuffed baby beluga whale and a tiny stuffed sheep.
The other twin doesn't necessarily have "favorites" but will get attached to something (right now it's a diecast plane because we just came back from a trip to Seattle and flew on a plane) for a while and then move on.

I can tell you for certain that your son finding comfort in his blanket has nothing to do with you! My son received a bunny for his first Easter 4 years ago. He still loves to cuddle his bunny when he goes to sleep at night.

My oldest had Bert (Bert and Ernie), my second carried about his "bussy" (a dust buster) he liked the sound and even slept with it (after we gave it a good cleaning nightly), and my youngest had a blankie with a silkie (the end had that satin feeling which he rubbed between his thumb and forefinger).

up until my brother was 2 1/2 he needed my moms sweatshirt, we finally took it away cold turkey and he got used to it..i'd say until he turns 1 1/2 let him have it. but when he turns 2, tell him its only for nap time.
