I cant relax AT ALL during my day. I am a stay at home mom, and most of the time, I get bored playing with my son (I KNOW ITS HORRIBLE) But, its because if my mind stops for 2 minutes, I start thinking about 100 things, like what am I going to make for dinner tomorrow, what should I write on my to do list, stupid things... but MY MIND WONT STOP!!! When It comes to bedtime, I am a little bit of an insomniac... but not too bad, but its because I am thinking too much. What can I do to relax.

I drink Sleepytime & Chamomile tea, and try to relax but I just cant... ANY IDEAS?

Hi...

it's not horrible that you can't play with your son continually.... adults need adult companionship, and time to themselves sometimes ..... and im sure you spend an adequate amount of time with your child, and that you love him.

as for your flight of thoughts and ideas -- i have them too, but i have an "excuse"... i was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

i like to keep myself occupied with projects - i am an artist, so i dive into that, when i have done everything else i can think of!

it might be a good idea for you to try to get out of the house a few times a week -- just do something for YOU or meet a friend for lunch or shopping , exercise or even a walk. If you have other stay at home mom friends with kids, maybe you could get together once in a while with the kids, as well?

sometimes when i can't sleep, i will get into a comfortable position in bed, and relax, starting with my toes, feet, then ankles and then i do my fingers, hands, wrists... etc... sometimes that helps.

if this continues, see your doctor. i'm sure it's tiring for you, as well as frustrating....

one more thing i thought of -- if you have something on your mind, issues or troubles... you could be suffering from a bit of anxiety?

i hope you can get some rest!

First of all, I think it is perfectly normal to get bored by playing with kids. I can take only so much of it, too. When I grew up, I had lots of siblings and other kids in the street, and no one needed or even wanted any adults around for playing - much better.
As for the relaxing part, do you get exercise? When I don't get any, I have a hard time relaxing, too, but if I work out (biking 1-2 hours) then I'm o.k. for the rest of the day (almost too relaxed..)

So, if at all possible, I'd suggest making time for yourself by having someone else look after your kid for a while and getting some good exercise.

Best wishes, Michael

What you are describing is obsessive thought patterns, related to anxiety. I would encourage you to (since you want non-medical treatment) look for the book entitled "Anxiety and Phobia Workbook" by Edmund J. Bourne. don't be scared off by the title. You are not alone in this. I just had a client with similar issues the other day.

In the book are many relaxation techniques and ways to gain control over your mind.

If all else fails, resort to anxiolytic meds.

Hope this helps.

Try lavendar scented face soaps, and other stuff that smells like lavender. It is a natural mind relaxant. Also, don't drink any caffiene. Sometimes you can overreact to caffiene and it can keep you up all night.
