I am having a family meal, 20 of us. How do I gauge how much hamburger to buy and fry for soft tacos? We are also having some nachos and spanish rice with it. I am infamous for making way too much.

Not more than 4-5 pounds. When following the directions on a package mix for a dinner of 10 tacos that it says serves 4 you only use 1 pound.

I would use around 5 pounds. It is always better to have too much than too little! 10 pounds is way to much that would be 1/2 pound per person!

I usually cook 1/4 lb per person and one pound "for the pot"
This works for me for just about any HB dish.

i'd say 10 pounds. if there is any left over add kidney beans and tomatoes for chili. i cook like you. i'd rather have enough for 9 extra than not enough for the one person who wanted seconds

1 pound per four people, so 5 pounds should do it

10 pounds of ground beef. If you have any left over use it for meat sauce for your spaghetti.
