the tranny dumped all its fluid out on the road when I removed it the tourque converter it stuck in the transmission any ideas? I would also like to know if the tranny out of an 88 with the same 7.3 liter engine would work it is a 3 speed I am not sure if it is a c4 or c6. The other option is a 5 speed standard from a 93 but it is a 2 wheel drive would the tail piece from my tranny bolt up? Any advice would be great thanks.

The converter is most likely welded into the front pump bushing, sounds like it is time for a transmission overhaul. The C6 out of the 88 could be retrofitted into the 91 but it will require the addition of the kick-down cable, FIPL sensor on the fuel pump along with appropriate hoses to hook it to the trans and vacuum pump and some rewiring of the neutral safety switch. With the price of diesel nowadays I would recommend getting the E4OD repaired or replaced, with out the overdrive your fuel economy will take it in the shorts.
