She just ate canned tuna fish that had been sitting out about 12 hours. I caught her in time, so she only had a little. Should I take her to the E.R. now or wait to see if she gets sick? I am freaking out!

if she only ate a little of it, I wouldn't worry too much. If it is going to affect her it will take four to six hours for symptoms to show up, if she starts vomiting, that would be the time to have her checked out, but I suspect they wouldn't do much other than maybe IV fluids to keep her hydrated. So calm down, and just wait and see what happens, in future, keep such items out of her reach.

if she did not eat a lot of it than chances are she'll be fine. but give it time, usually symptoms will show after 5 or 6 hours. if she starts vomitting profusely than you can take her to an urgent care center but there's not that much that they can really do except for give her IV fluids to keep her hydrated, basically you have to let it pass naturally. what you can do for now is keep her hydrated and it she's hungry feed her something fresh. but like i said chances are she'll be fine and wont need to go to an urgent care center, ER is pointless because food poisoning is not life threatening. but in the future dont leave things that you dont want her to eat within her reach, because if she can reach it than presume that she will eat it or at least try to eat it.

When you have a child that does not yet have the mental development to know what is inappropriate to put in mouth, then you should not have child able to get access to what can be put in mouth.

Think carefully where you store cleaning fluids ... can child get into that cupboard, unscrew cap drink it.

Keep cigarette smokers out of your home ... babies have been known to reach into ashtrays and put that stuff in mouth.

The process is known as child proofing your home.
Perhaps ask a Yahoo Answers Question about how to do so.

Freaking out? You should've called 911 and would have gotten quicker and better answers. Or are you freaking out coz the situation is taking or gonna take your time sitting in front of your computer and busy surfing the net. Perhaps you're taking more time in the net than taking care of your child who might've been hungry when she tried to eat the tuna fish.
