My husband and I LOVED Darwin. We were there during the month of October a number of years ago while we traveled around the whole continent. The Wet Season had not started yet but you could see evidence of how deep water got during the wet....

Darwin was rebuilt after a tornado hit in the early/mid 1970s so it is fairly modern. It was involved in WWII so it has some historical sites along those lines.

It is close to some spectacular land formations: The Kakadu National Park and the Katherine Gorge are just a couple areas steeped in Aboriginal culture and history...and just beautiful beyond words. You won't find flora or fauna like it just anywhere....it is a place of awe and wonder.

We still talk about the thunder and lightening overhead while we were at Katherine Gorge...the hot air meeting with the cold air, apparently on a nightly basis, lets loose a magnificent show of the power of nature. Simply awesome--and humbling.

Overall, with its ancient history, modern history, beautiful landscapes, flora and fauna--it's worth visiting. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the gorgeous sunsets!

We recommend it highly. It may be a little bit off the beaten tracks, but it has a lot to offer visitors and we enjoyed it immensely.

Darwin is best for tourists from May to September. This is the dry season. The real wet season months are November to March. April and October can be wet, they can be dry. It is warm all year.

The problem with the wet season is that many of the roads to places you might like to see are flooded and closed, the sea is unsuitable for swimming because of box jellyfish and it is hot and humid when it isn't raining.

Darwin is a great place, I was there earlier this year in March and April and am going back for the next wet season. For tourists, though, go in the dry season.

Absolutely, depends what your looking for in your holiday. Darwin has a monsoon type climate so traveling there during monsoon isn't so good. Darwin is full of natural beauty and wonders....it lacks in the shopping, nightlife aspect but treks, safaris and adventure activities are plentiful.
