Alright, so, for probably about the last week or so, I've had what I think is a horrible sinus infection. Every 5 seconds, I'm hacking and spitting up post-nasal drip. I hardly have to blow my nose. The back of my throat hurts (not like strep throat-hurt, and not raw from spitting), but just on the left side (feels like a swollen lump below my jaw). I haven't felt any sinus pressure, or had any pain in my face/head/head aches, but am constantly spitting up post-nasal. And here's the worst part (to me anyway)... every 10-12 times that I hack up and spit, large (almost the size of a dime), hard pieces of mucous come out.. you know, the one's that make you gag when you feel it come out from the back of your nose-throat when you hack em' up (what exactly are those, anyway?). One looked like the shape of my nasal cavity... weird. Anyway, is this just a horribly aweful, night-mare-ish sinus infection? And, how can I take care of it? Please, serious replies only. Thanks Everyone!

That sounds like a sinus infection.
http://www.emedicinehealth.com/sinus_infection/article_em.htm
The website has info from symptoms to treatment to causes.
You might want to go to a doctor. If it is siniuitis he might prescribe antibiotics and a decongestant, which will help.

You're coming down with a sinus infection. You caught it early. To get rid of the symptoms, put 2 tablespoons of salt into 1/2 glass of water. Use a teaspoonfull and inhale this into each nostril. It will sting some but the infection will be stopped. To keep from getting any more, take a teaspoon of local honey each morning. It will help your body develop imunities to the airborne irritants that are in your area. You probably blew your nose too hard and created cuts or cracks inside the sinus cavities that were just waiting to become infected. Don't get hooked on nasal decongestants. They will dry up everything up there but you will not be able to get the stuff out. After a while, you'll be at the hospital getting them cleaned out with a water spray. Not fun. Been there, done that. The honey will help you from getting cold and flu symtoms as well. Natural cures and preventitives are the best for your body in the long run. No side affects, no medical bills and no long term damage to your body.

That sounds like one horrible sinus infection. I have chronic infections so I know what you mean. Sounds like a decogestant would be good for you. You can try Claritan-D which is an OTC decongestant. However you may also have bronchitis, (similar symptoms) you'll want to see a dr for that. I use Flonase Nasal Spray - prescription, which I swear by. No sinus infections for a couple years now.
In the meantime, for your raw throat, drink hot liquid (ie. tea, coffee, hot jello, hot chicken broth).
Good luck.

That sounds horrible, and I hope you recover soon. How about trying drugs like Augmentin Xr or Oxymetazoline? Also, if you believe in alternative remedies, you could try Jala Neti. I am not a doctor, but I know a great resource for you to explore these topics: http://www.kosmix.com/Health/sinus_infection-s
This site gives you web results, images and also allows you to learn about all topics related to sinus infections.
Hope this helps.

Now I feel sick too; lol, no, seriously, it's revolting, isnt it. ? You need to start flushing your sinuses with salty water. Get a cup, half filled with warm water, add a teaspoon of salt, stirr, then snort it up into your nose. Then pinch your nostrils to hold the water in, hold your head back, then forwards, then one side and the other. Do this several times and it will clear them for a while. I take garlic and horseradish tablets everyday, to prevent mine getting too gross, but it's a constant problem for some people.

It sounds like you are producing to much mucus, could be an allergy, there is medication for the mucus production issue..
Suggest you see and ear, nose, throat specialist,
the OTC approach will only be temporary.
You have stayed the course with no results, this could turn into something major because of the prolonged irritation.
Good Luck
