I woke up this morning feeling great and light headed then I started to think, I got really stressed. My head started to fill up with thoughts and I'm in pain now. Not from any specific thoughts just a general sense of not being well. When I woke I felt great my mind was clear and then some specific thoughts came into my mind such as my brother stealing money from me and my mom being a drug addict and my dad not being involved in my life. I am 25 and I live by myself in New York City. I'm asking the community for any information regarding my situation and if anybody has experienced something similar to me please tell me about it. Thank You

Hi --

Your issues seem to be the result of your past experiences... probably stemming from fears and anxieties which have been instilled in you -- it seems as if your family life wasn't the greatest, from what you say here.

Years after we've left a bad home and childhood experience, some of us don't cope well... it's not uncommon, and thinking and worrying are the result.

Your mother was ill, seeing how she was a drug addict. Your father was absent, which left you wondering, i'm sure. Your brother obviously isn't trustworthy, so that plays on your mind.

Perhaps you can talk with a therapist about these problems. Also there are many mental health forums/communities on line, and you might receive support there (the members are those with mental illness, and post traumatic stress issues, etc. and they aren't doctors -- but many members are very supportive and caring.. and might even have suggestions for help).

I'm a member of such a community, and i have put the website address below. It might be worth a try, as well as considering a therapist or some form of counseling.

What you went through during your life was NOT your fault... the actions of others sometimes deeply affect us, but the truth is, it's their fault!

take care.. maybe you will consider joining our forum?

hugs

One technique that is helpful is a 'keyword' or 'mantra'. They help build discipline and allow us to take control of our mind, consciously. The mind is ALWAYS working, even in sleep and it can be tiring to try and control every thought but think of a happy time in your life OR a point in your life you wanna be. Think of this point in full detail. Assign a Keyword such as HALO or CONQUISTADOR. Whenever you feel negative thoughts entering....say your keyword! and let the good times roll. If you have to do it all day and think positive all day then its a small sacrifice for your health and well being. Good Luck!

It would be good for you to be able to confide in someone and discuss these issues. There is a time in everyones life that they could talk to a good pshycologist. Now is that time for you. You will have a safe environment where you can discuss with someone who is legally bound not to discuss your issues. Once you are able to put all your thought together and vocalize what is weighing heavy on you, you will feel so much better. Good Luck.
