Yes!
I think the time you went skating, you went to a public session . . . where anyone can skate for a few hours. Most of the people skating probably had rental skates and were there just to have fun! And they made you all skate in one direction, right?
The few people you did see who could skate advanced moves had their own skates and probably did come to practice some - more than likely they were either at the center or the very ends of the rink. But you won't find them doing big jumps and such like you see on tv because they are technically not allowed to do that on public sessions for the safety of others - especially if it's way crowded!!
There is a different skating session for advanced skaters - here it's called a freestyle session. The rules are different as everyone is everywhere - having a lesson with their coach, practicing moves or working on a program with their music playing overhead. It is a practice session, usually in an hour or less increments, for those who are in good control of their skating. If you're talking about high level skaters, that is the time you would see them on the ice.
Hope that helps!

Once hockey skaters get into a league, they spend so much time on the ice, they don't have time to skate on public sessions. Figure skaters are often required to practice spins and jumps on the "Freestyle" sessions, which are special (expensive) ice times just for figure skating.
Most of the people you saw were probably beginners or occasional skaters just having fun.
To answer your question: Yes, I know how to skate!
Skating in the summer is a great way to stay cool - I just came back from the rink and I turned off the a/c at home because I was too cold! LOL

Yes I know how to skate. Most good skaters do not skate during public sessions because many of the inexperienced skaters get in the way, and when figure skaters skate freestyle sessions there are less people.

Why do some people make fun of the way other people talk? That's uncool. You're nice, Jasmine. I love to ice-skate. I've always wanted to be a figure skater.
