It's a metaphor. He's a Christian, innit?
Metaphor explained:
A bulletproof car is one that nothing can enter, unless invited.
Even a fast, hard bullet won't get through.
A Christian is one that shuts out all other faiths, unless invited.
Even hard evidence of reality won't get through.
Of course this doesn't apply to all Christians, but the ones who accept others are kinda not liked in the Bible.

It's called "faith in action." Also, ONLY God's appointed representative on earth would need five-inch-thick bullet-proof glass on his vehicle. The protection of God's own hand is no match for a bullet, apparently.

Matthew 4:5-7 states:
Then the devil took him to the holy city, and made him stand on the parapet of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written: 'He will command his angels concerning you and 'with their hands they will support you, lest you dash your foot against a stone.'"
Jesus answered him, "Again it is written, 'You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test.'"
There are a lot of crazy people out there so the Pope likewise uses his God-given common sense and does not put God to the test.
With love in Christ.

What makes you think the Pope is not afraid of death? He is only human after all. Plus there was an attempt on JP II's life.

I am not scared of dying but that doesn't mean I am going to go and drive around @ 120mph
Not being scared of dying =/= being stupid with your life.
The pope is a prime target for an assassination and thus protects himself.

And if he's truly doing god's will, he shouldn't need one. God should see to his safety, and if god doesn't, then that is his will.
Jesus didn't have bodyguards, did he?
(Simple things like this make it so obvious that these people are total scam artists. It truly saddens me that so many people are so blind to it.)
Edit - Charlie - So you're inadvertantly supporting what I'm saying. There wouldn't have been much hoopla about Jesus if he got stabbed in a barfight, would there? If he's really such a magical and important person to god, god wouldn't let that happen, would he?

What if the assassin missed and just maimed him? You would have all sorts of problems from this incident.

I'm Protestant, but I must point out that Jesus was often close to death and narrowly escaped multiple times.

Because the people around him are worshipping him and don't want anything to happen to him.
