probably because other people don't want to see him get shot. and just because you aren't "scared" of death doesn't mean you invite it.

It's called "faith in action."

Also, ONLY God's appointed representative on earth would need five-inch-thick bullet-proof glass on his vehicle. The protection of God's own hand is no match for a bullet, apparently.

Matthew 4:5-7 states:

Then the devil took him to the holy city, and made him stand on the parapet of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written: 'He will command his angels concerning you and 'with their hands they will support you, lest you dash your foot against a stone.'"

Jesus answered him, "Again it is written, 'You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test.'"

There are a lot of crazy people out there so the Pope likewise uses his God-given common sense and does not put God to the test.
