Yes you should if you feel comfortable doing so.
I say this because an MBA while a lot of work does not prohibit one from taking your dog out every 5-8 hours. While I was in undergraduate I befriended many MBA students in my Ivy League university and I know for a fact that there is a lot of time between meetings and classes. Training can include crate training while you are gone and monitoring while you are there. I believe that a good dog knows that it isn't always play time and its good to start that foundation as a puppy. And if you are only working a 20-30 hour week you can absolutely have a dog. I've known people to work 100 hr weeks of some of the most stressful jobs in the world who still do it. Also knowing how dedicated you were to your last dog is a wonderful omen for this puppy that he's not going to end up back exactly where he is. The fact that you are thinking this through is also a good sign, you want to make sure you are doing the right thing. I have every personal faith that you can do it. I will say that in personal experience some people differ in the amount of responsibility they are able to take on -- mentally some are not as enduring. Think of it as management training for your husband's MBA!

It helps to put something in the kennel that makes him feel like when he was with his brothers and sisters. They make a lil stuffed animal that has a heart beat that would work, but something a little more common would be a heating pad or some kind of heating device. Make sure u put it in a blanket or something so it doesnt burn the puppy. Is there any reason why u are putting the dog in a kennel at night? i have raised about 6 different dogs throughout my life and i never used a kennel. My current dog has turned out to be the best dog i have ever had and he has never been put in a kennel or needed to be tied up outside. The dog needs to feel secure bcuz it is so young. I got mine when he was about 6 1/2 wks old and i made him a really comfortable bed on the floor next to our bed. He would sleep thru the whole night especially bcuz he could see us and sense that we were close by. The only time he would cry to get in the bed was if he got too cold bcuz of the fan or air conditioner. He is now 2 yrs old and he still is content sleeping in his bed next to ours. i do spoil him sometimes tho and let him in the bed on my days off after my boyfriend goes to work because he is a good snuggler, lol

If you can arrange a day walk for the puppy, by all means go ahead. The biggest mistake is that people are so busy they have not time for potty training. Be fair to the dog and try to arrange a day-time walker. That will prevent many behavioural problems. The fact that you already have another dog can help. At least they will keep each other company. But be aware, if there are any behavioural conditions between the two (such as aggression or damaging chewing) you will need to take care of it, regardless of your working schedule.

Ok it sounds like you already have a feeling that it would not work out very well, which means that you should not get a puppy. It is wonderful that you want to help these animals, but if you have any doubt that the animal will not work out for you, then it is probably not a good idea. We would not want you to have to find it a new home, and the puppy would not like that either.

You seem so busy to be getting a puppy. Remember he/she will need house training, obediance training, and crate training for when you are away for short periods of time. Also, puppies have to urinate frequently so you could not leave him alone in a crate for 10 hours(a three month old puppy can hold his/her bladder for 4 hours.) However, you could get a pet-sitter to take care of your puppy while you are gone. It seems like it would be rather hard to care for the puppy.

If you think you won't have time for housebreaking, than I would suggest getting an adult dog who is already housebroken. Also make sure you can set up a dog-walker or maybe dog daycare on the days you'll be working long hours. Don't get a dog if you think you won't be able to give it the time and attention it deserves.

I think it's a great idea as long as you take him outside when you get home.and maybe have someone you know and trust to have the puppy during those long hour days.i'm just happy to know that a cute lil puppy is going to be saved : ) good luck and best of wishes!

You may want to concider adopting an older dog from the shelter, who is able to "hold it" longer and doesnt need as much socialization and constant attention like a puppy requires.
