Have any of you studied Mormon doctrine? How does it line up with the Bible, and only the Bible? -- none of their other books?

I studied Mormon teachings. Joseph Smith was mislead by the devil and invented an American born religion that contradicts the truths of Christianity like the Trinity. God is one and his teachings are one.

I have studied Mormon doctrine.

First I would like to ask those people who say stuff like: "Book of Mormon have been changed thousands of times" or things like it isn't even recognizable from when it was first produced to prove it! I want to see where they get off saying that there have been thousands of changes to the Book of Mormon!

Guess what, they can't do it.

As far as the Book of Mormon not being recognizable from when it was first produced I'm sure that those people who say that also want to deny or ignore the fact that the original printing presses that the first editions of the book were printed on were destroyed by raging mobs, HARDLY the conditions under which the Bible was produced!

The Book of Mormon was translated from Golden Plates that were witnessed, handled, hefted, held and otherwise observed by 11 other people than Joseph Smith and none of those people ever denied seeing what they saw.

There are SO many inconsistencies that are contained in the Bible yet these same people who bash the Book of Mormon seek to destroy the faith of those who believe in modern prophets, believe in modern revelation and believe that the saving ordinances are only contained in the LDS church.

I think that the main thing that people have against the LDS church is that they're upset that people actually have the audacity to proclaim that God and Jesus Christ are in very deed acitve and alive today and they can't measure up to the standards required to become an active member of the church. It's sad that a little cup of coffee or a small cigarette is keeping them away from such a wonderful experience.

what are you talking about none of their other books. so you just want there doctrine. but not compare there book or mormon.

first i have not studied there doctrine iteslf except looking it up to see what it says and asking a couple co workers who are mormon. some stuff contradicts the Bible. first thing is the Bible is clear on if anyone comes to you with any other doctrine then that of which is preached from the Bible is false. mormons believe they will become a god one day. the Bible preaches there is only one God and no other nore will there be any other. the mormons use a temple and do some secret stuff. i.e. get spiritually married, secret handshake, and other things. the Bible does not tell us to do this and to have secret stuff. infact the Bible tells that at first the temple was for everyone but those who had a disease. then later on Jesus said the temple was for everyone even those with disease. then the temple because us. we are the temple now. mormons will argue and try to say churches dont have temples. but we are the temple. and if you want to argue then even if we still use a building then why is the mormon temple not for everyone? if you want to be technicall a temple was used for worship and prayer. that is what a church building is. and my church or temple is for everyone. anyways, they also baptize for the dead and they will misquote the Bible. there is a verse that says why are we baptized for the dead if the dead is dead or something i dont know right off the back but i know they use a verse like that. however 2 things with the verse. first is that the verse and this is what most believe was talking about us being baptized in Jesus name. if Jesus is dead why are we baptized in his name as preached in acts. not talking about baptizing the dead people. second it can mean that some were baptizing the dead and it was questioning why are they baptizing them. anyways. they will also claim the Bible is mistranslated and that it is the word of man and not the Word of God and that there book of mormon is the word of God. however the funny thing and i love this is the Bible was proven 98 percent acurate today. the 2 percent is mostly grammar and a couple words that are different. however the Bible is still and i say again and give me an amen the Bible is still 100 percent acurate with meaning. if you read it now and you read it then you get the same salvation plan and everything still. and here is why i laugh. because the book of mormon is way different then back in what is it 1830 or whenever the first book was out. you compare and you get 2 different things now. wow for mormons to claim the Bible is bad now maybe they should look at there own book and how much there doctrines and book or mormon has changed.

another thing for me is the book of mormon at first starts out with the saying that it is the fullness of the gospel just like the Bible is. so that says both are the fullness of the gospel right???? if you saw that would you get the same thing. ok hope we on the same page then it claims that without the book of mormon you dont have the fullness of the gospel. wait a minute. it just said i do as long as i have a Bible but now it claims i dont unless i have the book of mormon wow. anyways again i also have answered questions about this so you can look more up in my profile. hope this helps you out. and you can do a search on the net as well. again i also know many will say things about what my belief is. that is i am apostolic pentecostal.

Well, since I am mormon, I can say that I think they line up with everything that is in the bible. I have read the bible many times, cover to cover, and I find nothing in there that contradicts each other. I have even cross-referenced the bible with the Book of Mormon, Pearl of Great Price and Doctrine and Covenants. I can't find anything in either that don't line up.

Of course, there is always room for interpretation. Some will take a scripture and understand it in a different way then someone else. That's the way it will always be. Everyone wants their sets of scripture to conform to what they believe, so my beliefs and understandings may be different then someone elses. That doesn't mean that either of us are wrong, it just means that I have a different slant then you do.

Here's a website for you. It covers what we believe about the bible, and gives some references to help you understand it better. The rest of the site is really good for answering questions you may have on certain doctrine issues. Even if you don't agree with us, at least you will understand better what our beliefs are.

Thanks for the question!!!! Have a great day!!!!

I've studied LDS Doctrine for 30 years. If you really would like to know how the Book of Mormon compares to the bible or lines up with the Bible, then read it. I can get you a free copy, just send me an e-mail and I'll have two nice young people drop one over at your house one day.

If you really want to analyze doctrine in detail, simply take a standard LDS version of the Bible and check all the cross references at the bottom. Underline those passages in the BOM or D&C. Pretty soon it will be obvious that all the scriptures are supporting one another.

Another way is to go to LDS Scriptures on line. Look up the topical guide under any subject. For example, a key element of Mormon Doctrine is pre-existence. There are 12 Bible references and 16 LDS references to this topic. Go through them and see if the references line up, clarify or disagree.

There are 16 Bible references to salvation of the dead and 14 LDS references. So when we discuss baptism for the dead, we are not starting with new doctrine, but expanding on established doctrine.

After a while, the real question becomes why have some doctrines been ignored for centuries when they are so plain and simple?

First, I have studied LDS doctrine for nearly 40 years and I am an active and practicing LDS. (Mormon is just a nick name.)

Absolutely nothing we teach goes against anything in the Bible. For example: the Bible states, "What God has joined together, let no man put asunder." but yet civil marriages say, "till death do you part." Sounds like "man putting it asunder". We practice eternal marriages, and no where in the Bible does it say that there is no marriage in heaven.

I've studied Mormon doctrine and it is completely different than the Bible. Apples and oranges, my friend :) It takes place in the Americas.

As with any faith based doctrine, it is helpful to read it yourself and form your own opinions. But, I believe it is largely erroneous. I believe that Joseph Smith wrote it in the 19th century. However, my opinion is just that - there are many who believe deeply in its truthfulness. How those people explain horses being present in the Americas before the Spanish or the fact there is no surviving Hebrew DNA in the living indigenous population is a mystery :)

I have. It doesn't line up with the Bible and only the bible. It doesn't even line up with the BOM. None of this can be reconciled either. I have asked the elders for help reconciling things and they fail in the attempt!

I've grown up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and I've never read anything in the Bible that I found to be contradicting to my faith. (And I've read the Bible cover to cover) There are matters of interpretation for some scriptures that we take a different approach on, but every Christian sect does that. Not all of our doctrine is explained explicitly in the Bible, but neither is any other religions; i.e. the Niceane Creed.

Good question. I hope I helped.
