You should be able to reinstall the same copy of XP on to the same computer with the new Hard Drive. When XP installs, it creates a serial number using information on your hard drive brand, processor, memory, system board, video, etc. It uses 10 different items. It will normally allow you to change 3-5 of the items before it decides this is a "different PC" and refuses to install.

If you can not get it to active, there is a number in the activation where you can call Microsoft and tell them what happened. They can reset the activation code for you over the phone.

You can install the same key of XP Pro on the same computer as many times as you want. If that computer dies, you can then install it on another computer as many times as you want, as long as the key is not in use anywhere else. Happy computing!

Your computer should have come with a restore disc. If you don't have one, and you have a warranty, contact the computer manufacturer. I know gateway and toshiba send discs with the operating system. You could also try installing the same disc on both, and explain the problem to whoever answers the phone call to activate windows. Sometimes it works on the internet and not the phone

of course you can reinstall and you don't need to buy another,
and it's not important how many times ... you just should not install it on different pc's at the same time . that's it.
but if you'r really serious about it, just tell me where you gonna throw that old copy ;)
