Tinea versicolor is not so much an infection as an overgrowth of a normal yeast that is present on almost everyone's skin. When the numbers of the offending yeast, called melassezia, become too numerous scaly patches are apparent that can be lighter or darker than the surrounding skin. This is a completely different problem from vitiligo and is not caused by candida. It is not contagious.

You need to use Selsun Blue extra strength or go to a tanning salon and ask for a lotion called HALT or whatever brand they have.. You will have the white spot there for a while until you start tanning again then it will blend in with the rest of your skin... It does work... Use the lotion/ shampoo everyday right through winter and the when summer hits it will settle down... Would hurt to was your hair with the selsun blue.. This skin problem actually comes from the scalp.....

No. But tinea versicolor is dark spots, I believe. White spots may mean vitilago (depigmentation). However, according to what I have read, they both may be caused by the same fungus - candida albicans. If you want some basic info on candida albicans (also known as yeast), check out the yeast link at www.hufa.org.
