If my God told me something like that, I'd have to doubt whether or not it was actually God.
However, I'm reminded of Abraham's faith, with Isaac. He was willing to sacrifice the son he'd waited so long to have with his wife, Sarah simply because God told him to.
If I KNEW beyond a shadow of a doubt that it was God, I'd know that either He would spare me because it was a test of my faith, or make sure my children were taken care of...I don't know. It's an awfully tough choice. I don't think my faith is THAT strong.
To be honest, I wouldn't go. Not at this point. But I know that if God would ask that of me, He'd forgive me and understand why I didn't do what He asked.

So many people have referenced how close this is the the story of Abraham and Issac. This story has always disturbed me. I found it so upsetting that God would ask this and that Abraham was willing to do it. I know that this is a story of his great faith and to many he is a hero. I just can't imagine ever even considering killing my child. I also would have great difficulty following a God who would ask such a thing. There would be nothing that could make me drive down that street and leave my child with nothing. He never asked to be born and the day I gave birth to him my responsibility was to him and I would never purposely abandon him or do anything to cause him intentional harm.

If it were truly God I'd obey him. Only God would know the outcome obviously.

It always fascinates me how many people who call themselves Christians manage to twist God's word so that it matches their own -- that "Oh, God wouldn't REALLY do that" or "That can't POSSIBLY be God", when the terms of the hypothetical have already established with absolute certainty that we know it's really God.
It makes you wonder -- just who is doing whose will?

If god told me something like that, I would know it was not God talking.
He operates in a different way.

It's the Abraham choice, maybe you should do what he says and start driving to your appointed death, and then, if he's true to form at the last minute he'll say "wait a minute, I was only testing you"

That is why God doesn't tell you when he'll call us home. Where would be your faith, couldn't he take care of the children for a home...

I don't believe it would be God telling me to do that. If He wanted me dead, I would be dead with no effort on my part.
