Evangelism is the proclamation of the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ with a view to bringing about the reconciliation of the sinner to God the Father through the regenerating power of the Holy Spirit. The word derives from the Greek noun euangelion, goods news, and verb euangelizomai, to announce or proclaim or bring good news.

The theme of Jesus Christ's earthly ministry was preaching and teaching the good news (gospel) of the kingdom of God. We read such at Luke 4:43; Luke 8:1; Luke 9:2; Matthew 24:14. Is the kingdom this warm, fuzzy thing in our hearts? No, the kingdom is an actual government. Daniel 2:44 and Daniel 7:13, 14 are not describing any warm fuzzy feeling in our heart. This is an actual government.
The good news is what this theocratic government, with Jesus as its king, will do for mankind. All the wondrous things no earthly government can ever do.
That being said, the goal of sharing this good news, the goal of preaching and teaching in imitation of the example Christ and his disciples left, is to make public what is in store for mankind so that people have an opportunity to avail themselves of such. That is why Christ said at Matthew 24:14: "This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come."
The goal is not to make a believer of everyone - indeed, that is impossible. The goal is to herald this good news "for a witness" so that when the end comes, those who responded favorably to the preaching work will be delivered while those unresponsive to the point of disobedience will undergo the judicial punishment of everlasting destruction. 2 Thessalonians 1:8, 9. It will be justice because the heralding left a witness and there will be no excuse.
