Question: "What does it mean that God is love?"
Answer: What does it mean that God is love? First we will look at how God's Word, the Bible, describes "love," and then we will see a few ways that it applies to God. "Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not want what belongs to others. It does not brag. It is not proud. It is not rude. It does not look out for its own interests. It does not easily become angry. It does not keep track of other people's wrongs. Love is not happy with evil; but it is full of joy when the truth is spoken. It always protects. It always trusts. It always hopes. It never gives up. Love never fails" (1 Corinthians 13:4-8a).
This is God's description of love. This is what He is like, and Christians are to make this their goal, (although always in the process). The greatest expression of God's love is communicated to us in John 3:16 and Romans 5:8. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him (Jesus Christ), will not perish but have everlasting life." "God demonstrated His love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." We can see from these verses that it is God's greatest desire that we join Him in His eternal home, heaven. He has made the way possible by paying the price for our sins. He loves us because He chose to as an act of His will. "My heart is stirred inside me. It is filled with pity for you" (Hosea 11:8b). Love forgives. "If we admit we have sinned (specifics), He will forgive us our sins. He will forgive every wrong thing we have done. He will make us pure" (1 John 1:9).
Love (God) does not force Himself on anyone. Those who come to Him do so in response to His love. Love (God) shows kindness to all. Love (Jesus) went about doing good to everyone without partiality. Love (Jesus) did not covet what others had, living a humble life without complaining. Love (Jesus) did not brag about who He was in the flesh, although He could have overpowered anyone He ever came in contact with. Love (God) does not demand obedience. God did not demand obedience from His Son, but rather, Jesus willingly obeyed His Father in heaven. "They must learn that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me to do" (John 14:31). Love (Jesus) was/is always looking out for the interests of others.
This short description of love reveals a selfless life, in contrast with the selfish life of the natural man. Amazingly, God has given those who receive His Son Jesus as their personal Savior from sin the ability to love as He does, through the power of the Holy Spirit (see John 1:12; 1 John 3:1, 23, 24). What a challenge and privilege!
Yes, God is love, and much much more.
With love through Christ Jesus,
Dusty

I know the answer would take many days to write out, but I think the short answer is going to go something like this: Jesus is telling those that believe in HIM and the FATHER should never be suede into believing anything else if you want to get to heaven. Even if you know a person so well that you are close as brothers and that person doesn't believe in MYSELF or my FATHER, then cast them off because they may have the silver tongue and may try to persuade you out of the way you believe and then you won't get to heaven. Almost like what the Bible says, "Beware of the false Prophet!" Now, if I get your question right, YOU will have the disfellowshipping and shunning done to you if you don't agree with what the Bible says?!? If this is correct, then read as follows. I think you have to make a choice which is the more important to you. The dis-fellowship and the shunning or belief that you are going to heaven. A possible hundred years of life on this earth as we know it or living for eternity in GOD's realm after our mortality

George W might have the nature of an idiot, but his name is still Mr President!
So too, the father and creator of the universe has a name. It is Yahuwah (YHWH). His son's name is Yahushua (meaning "Yahuwah saves")
Remember these verses: He that calls upon the name of Yahuwah will be saved. and "By no other name under heaven may you be saved"
Your bible does not say Yahuwah??? Look in your bibles preface to see what Satan has done to trick you into believing his name is "God" or "Lord", which are taken from pagan religions of whom Israel has not known.
Sin in ignorance and you are in peril, sin without it and destruction is certain. Now you are no longer ignorant, go and sin no more.
Yahushua Shalom

I think that you could name God as love and it will work in most cases. But he's much more than that: he's the father, the son, the holy spirit, truth, purity, life, eternity, justice...
Something interesting to try out: 1. Cor. 13, 4-7, whenever there's the word love, change it into your name and you'll be shocked how stupid it sounds. But then change it into the name of Jesus and it'll be perfect.

Not at all.
Words MEAN things; and the word "God" has all sorts of extra baggage that it carries along with it.
It also has very little to do with the God of the Old Testament either, considering all the mass-murdering ol' Joe Hovah did in those days....

It can be changed to anything someone thinks - the rel question is if people are intelligent and have evolved enough out of primitive thinking to understand the new era.

When Moses ask God what would he say was His name, God just said, "I AM." That term is all encompassing. While love is an important attribute of God, it is far from being complete. God is said to be light. He has mercy, compassion, vengence, wrath and others sides. To say God is just love would be like me saying, more or less, you were just your right arm.

People has changed his name enough.
How about leaving it alone and start using it.
King James Version:
Psa 83:18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.

God's name could be changed to lots of things. "Slavery is OK", for instance. Or "Stone disobedient children", "Commit genocide in my name", "I'm really annoyed so I'm just going to drown you all for the sake of it". I confess, Love wouldn't have been my first choice, but I guess if you look hard enough...
