If you just have to turn in your topic, here are a few:

1. Do plants with smooth leaves and plants with hairy leaves lose water at different rates?

2. If you have access to a microscope, you could compare the density of stomata on upper and lower surfaces of several kinds of leaves. "Are stomata distributed differently on the surfaces of different kinds of leaves?" Here's a description of the procedure. http://www.biologycorner.com/worksheets/stomata.html

3. How does the mass of the root system compare with the mass of the shoot system in some common plants? Dig up some different plants out of the yard - just weeds - and cut them apart just above the root system. Find the mass of each system: root and shoot.
