Drinking water will help but not the juice. Fruit juice contains natural citric acid. Juices other than citric fruit are most likely to have citric acid as well as "absorbic acid" added. Absorbic acid is the acid used to digest food in the stomach. This acid will cause irritation and pain, if he is in an advanced stage. Rather than fruit juice, try fruit (herbal) teas. He can drink them hot or let them cool before drinking. He will need to speak to his GP about the options available, including a transplant. However, I believe a transplant is not an option yet as his GP would have discussed this with him, if it was necessary. It appears that the GP believes that his medication will bring him to full recovery. It will take time but the liver will repair itself in time. To help his liver to repair itself, he needs to limit or cut out fatty foods, spicy foods and alcohol. Do a Yahoo search for the NHS Homepage and look for links for Hep C and you should find plenty of info and don't worry too much as his symptoms will improve as long as he has medication and watches what he eats and drinks. If it was his heart, kidneys or lungs, it would be much more serious but the liver, luckily enough, is the only organ that can reproduce it's cells and repair itself.
